CATDOLL: What are the differences between oysters and shellfish?

Oysters are molluscs with two shells, one small and flat, the other large and raised, quasi-triangular, with an eight-shaped dorsal and ventral margin. The outer surface of the right shell is light yellow, with loose concentric scales, the scales are undulating in a wave-like shape, and the inner surface is white. The surface of the shell is uneven. The meat is edible and can be used to make oyster sauce. The meat, shell, and oil can all be used as medicine. It is also called oyster clam, oyster roe, sea oyster, oyster, etc. There are many varieties of oysters living in different seas.

The differences between oysters and clams are as follows:

1. Different subordination: There are many types of oysters, and raw oysters are one of them. We can say that raw oysters are oysters, but we cannot say that oysters are raw oysters. The two are in a subordinate relationship, and raw oysters are subordinate to oysters.

2. Different sizes: Oysters are larger in size, and large oysters can weigh more than one kilogram; while other varieties of oysters are very small, about the size of a small section of an adult's thumb.

3. Different growing environments: Oysters generally live at the intersection of relatively rare rivers and seas, in the shallow seas of semi-brackish and semi-fresh inner bays. Due to the limitations of the growing environment, the output is very small. Oysters are produced in my country from the Bohai Sea, the Yellow Sea to the Nansha Islands, and there are about 20 species.

4. Different meat colors: The flesh of oysters is milky white; while the flesh of some varieties of oysters is light green.

5. Different zinc content: Oysters have a high zinc content, 71.2 mg per 100 grams, which is seven or eight times higher than that of oysters. They are called the milk of the sea.
