CATDOLL: How to breed crayfish at home?

1. Sex Identification

Crayfish are dioecious, and the external characteristics of male and female individuals are very obvious and easy to distinguish. The identification method is as follows:

1. The first and second abdominal feet of male shrimp have evolved into white calcium tubular copulatory organs; the first abdominal foot of female shrimp has degenerated and the second abdominal foot is feather-like.

2. The genital opening of male shrimp is at the base of the fifth pair of thoracic legs; the genital opening of female shrimp is at the base of the third pair of thoracic legs.

3. Body length and artificial breeding: From June to August every year, select the seed shrimps from the crayfish caught in ponds or natural waters, and then put them into indoor cement pools or outdoor artificially dug earth pools for breeding. The density of seed shrimps is about 30 per square meter. The density can be slightly higher in ponds with better conditions, with a male-female ratio of 2:1 and a water depth of 0.6-0.8 meters.

First, a large number of artificial nests are set up at the bottom of the pond, a small amount of water plants and water hyacinths are transplanted, and an aerator is used to add oxygen to the pond. Then, artificial induction is used to induce the breeding shrimp to mate and lay eggs. 12 hours after the female shrimp lays eggs, the female shrimp with eggs is carefully moved into the hatching pond with water for centralized hatching. After the larvae hatch out of the membrane, artificially cultivated unicellular algae or rotifers are put into the pond. The hatching pond can also be filled with pond water rich in plankton for the crayfish larvae and young shrimp to eat. After the young shrimp leave the mother body, the breeding shrimp is caught and the young shrimp are harvested in batches.

Artificial propagation of crayfish can generally produce two rounds of breeding per breeding season. Cement ponds can produce 5,000-10,000 juvenile shrimps per square meter, and artificially excavated earth ponds can produce 500-1,000 juvenile shrimps per square meter.
