Most of the mandarin fish sold in the market now are probably farmed, and the price is around 20-30 yuan per catty. I once found a so-called wild "mandarin fish", which is the famous "three flowers and five Luo" in Heilongjiang, for sale at 160 yuan per catty. This should be the most expensive freshwater fish I have ever seen!

Why is the price of mandarin fish so high now? It is hard to eat it now. First, the market demand is large. As a high-end freshwater fish, mandarin fish is particularly popular at many banquets, and it can be used to cook many "popular" dishes. Mandarin fish is very delicious among freshwater fish. Its meat is delicate, without fine bones, and without the earthy smell of freshwater fish, so it is very popular. Second, there are not many waters suitable for the growth of mandarin fish. Mandarin fish prefers to breathe in clean running water, and has high requirements for the cleanliness of water quality. Now the waters suitable for the survival of mandarin fish are gradually decreasing. Mandarin fish is a relatively ferocious carnivorous fish. Because its food is also decreasing under wild conditions, the output of mandarin fish is also decreasing. Third, people's pursuit of healthy and original ecological ingredients does not know when it started. As long as it is named wild, the price of this ingredient will rise. As a famous freshwater fish species, mandarin fish is naturally expensive with the word "wild". Generally, people who catch wild mandarin fish will choose to sell them, and few will be willing to enjoy them themselves. It is naturally difficult to eat in rural areas. Fourth, how to distinguish wild mandarin fish from farmed mandarin fish? Look at the pattern on the fish body. The pattern of wild mandarin fish is particularly deep, while the pattern of farmed mandarin fish is relatively shallow.

The poisonous spines on the back of wild mandarin fish will cause numbness and itching when you prick your hand, and farmed mandarin fish are not as good. Wild mandarin fish are rarely sold alive in the market, because it is difficult for this fish to survive after being caught and injured. It eats too much and swallows everything, so it is easy to hurt it when you remove the hook. In fact, many delicacies have disappeared in rural areas now, not just mandarin fish. In the past, the small river shrimps, loaches, crucian carp seeds, etc. that filled the puddles in the summer are basically gone now!

Because the water quality in the river is not very good now, the number of wild mandarin fish has decreased.

Because the water in rural rivers is polluted, the growth of wild mandarin fish has been affected and the number has decreased a lot, so it is very difficult to eat wild mandarin fish now.

With the large-scale hunting by people, the reproduction of wild mandarin fish cannot keep up with the hunting by people, and the environment is getting worse and worse. The water quality that meets the production conditions of wild mandarin fish is getting less and less, and it is difficult to breed it artificially, so it is becoming less and less.
