How to identify the age of a chicken from its appearance?

The age of a chicken can be determined based on a variety of physical characteristics, such as weight, which is generally proportional to age. In addition, the color and degree of aging of the comb are also relatively intuitive (if it is a rooster). The ones with fresh colors are of course younger. Similarly, for hens, you can look at the beak. Generally, the beak of a chick is tender yellow in color and does not have very thick cuticle, but as it ages, the color will become dull and the cuticle will become thicker.

1: Look at the comb and beard

The comb of laying hens is red, and as the chickens age, the comb and wattle will become larger. As the chickens age, the egg-laying function decreases, and the comb and wattle will also change and become slightly white.

2: Look at the fur color

Young hens have better feather color, some are shiny, and this is more common in spotted chickens; young chickens have better back feathers, while old chickens have poor back feathers. The reason is: the roosters trample on them during mating; young chickens have an active metabolism and their feathers grow faster.

3: Look at the foot distance

Hens actually have it too, but it's round and convex and flatter when they are young. It's more obvious in older chickens, and the toes become more protruding. Some may be like roosters, which is also related to the breed.

4: Look at the agility of action

Young chickens are fast, old chickens are slow.

5. Look at the egg bag

The eggs of old people are large and visibly loose.

6: Look at the anus

The anus of old chickens is loose, and even in the period of no longer laying, it is relatively wide and can accommodate two fingers; this is not the case with young chickens, especially those that have not yet started laying, as the anus will be tight even with one finger.

7: Look at the claws

The claws of old chickens are longer and the cuticle is rough. The reason is that the metabolism slows down and the chickens do not eat frequently.
