4. What kind of animal is cockroach?

Cockroach, the common name of the Blattaria insects, also known as "cockroaches", belongs to the order Dictyoptera and the suborder Blattaria, with more than 3,500 species. Cockroaches are one of the most primitive winged insects in existence (almost unchanged for 320 million years) and one of the oldest fossil insects. They are characterized by a flat, oval body; long, filamentous antennae; and a leathery, shiny, black or brown body wall. The head is bent downward, and the tip of the mouthparts points backward, rather than forward or downward like most other insects. Males usually have two pairs of wings; while females are often wingless or have degenerate wings, with egg pods protruding from the body to carry the eggs. After the female excretes the egg pods, the nymphs hatch from the egg pods, initially white, and their bodies harden and turn brown after exposure to air. Adult cockroaches are large, with some species having a wingspan of up to 12 centimeters (4.7 inches). Their structure and size have attracted the interest of biologists, who use them in the laboratory.

In addition to toads and frogs, parasitic wasps and spiders, scorpions, ants, parasitic wasps, lizards, kangaroos, monkeys, mice, etc. are also common natural enemies of cockroaches.
