How to diagnose uterine nematode disease in fish?

[Symptoms] The scales of the diseased fish stand up due to parasitic worms, and the parasitic sites become inflamed and congested. It often causes secondary bacterial and saprolegniasis. The scales at the site of parasitism show irregular red-purple patterns, and the red worms can be seen when the scales are lifted. [Diagnostic points] The scales of the diseased carp are bulging and red, with special patterns on them. If the scales are turned over, red nematodes can be seen coiled in the scale capsules. [Prevention and control] (1) Clean the pond with quicklime to kill the intermediate host of the uterine nematode, the swordfish.

(2) Soak the fish in 2% to 2.5% salt water.

(3) Apply 1% potassium permanganate to the lesions on the body surface of the diseased fish.

(4) Apply iodine to the lesions on the body surface of the diseased fish.

(5) Use 0.2-0.4 g/m3 of crystalline dichlorvos and spray it throughout the pond.
