Small black fish like to eat small fish, and frogs will eat their own kind when they are extremely hungry. Artificially raised black fish can eat bright bait, shrimp, octopus, fish meat, and even white fat pig skin.

Snakehead fish baits include animal viscera and various small fish and shrimp. Some farmers use chicken intestines to feed, and have also achieved good results. If you breed mealworms, maggots or earthworms yourself, you can solve the bait problem and greatly reduce the breeding cost. Snakehead fish can also be fed with artificial compound baits, the formula of which is: 70% minced fish and shrimp paste, 20% soybean powder, 5% yeast powder, and the rest are multivitamin mineral salts, growth promoters and antibiotics. Feed twice a day, the amount of feed is 5% to 7% of the fish body weight, and most fish are full. When using artificial compound baits, feeding training must be carried out from an early age. In the early stage, earthworms or fish and shrimp paste can be placed on the feeding table, and the feeding table can be hung 20 cm below the water surface to lure the fry to feed. After the fry are accustomed to feeding on the feeding table, gradually increase the compound bait. Do not feed live bait in the middle of feeding training to avoid affecting the training effect.

Its main food is crucian carp, __ and shrimp. Generally, when the body length is less than 3 cm, it feeds on copepods, cladocerans and chironomid larvae; when the body length is 3-8 cm, it mainly feeds on aquatic insect larvae, shrimps and tadpoles; when the body length is more than 20 cm, it mainly feeds on various small wild fish, frogs and shrimps. Snakehead fish especially like to swallow live frogs. A 40 cm long snakehead fish can swallow more than a dozen small frogs at a time, so frogs are often used as bait when fishing for snakehead fish, which is a sure win. After special training, snakehead fish will also eat floating granular feed.

Snakehead fish are carnivorous fish. Small snakehead fish feed on aquatic zooplankton, while slightly larger ones will eat small fish and shrimps. Large snakehead fish mainly eat other fish and frogs. Mud-cracked loaches are also a favorite food of snakehead fish.
