What is the function of a cat's claws?

The function of cat's claws:

1. Cat claws are the main tactile nerves of cats. They not only help them assess the distance and activity of prey, but also allow them to maintain body balance.

2. Cat claws can reduce the shock caused by a cat falling from a height. Cats always appear and disappear silently because the pads on their claws can reduce friction. This is an ability that wild cats acquired after a long period of evolution in order to capture prey a long time ago.

3. Cats can sweat through the pads on their paws, especially in the summer when cats have done strenuous exercise or are frightened or stressed, their paws will secrete sweat. When cats are hot, they will open their paws and stretch their legs to increase the heat dissipation area.

4. A cat's claws are also an important tool for communicating with the outside world. A cat's sweat can leave a scent to indicate where it has walked and establish its territory.

How to trim your cat's claws:

1. First of all, you need to calm the cat's emotions and make it relaxed. For example, you can create a very comfortable environment for the cat by stroking its paws. This way, the cat will stretch its claws and expose its nails, making it easier for the owner to trim them.

2. Gently grab one of the cat's front paws. If the cat feels uncomfortable and moves around, you can wrap it tightly with a towel and gently pull out one of its paws. Or you can ask a helper to grab it and trim its nails.

3. A cat's nails are retracted into its claws. To make the nails visible, you can press the front end of its paw pad with your thumb while tilting the front end of the claw downward.

4. Make sure the cat's claws are still before trimming their nails. The darker part of most cats' nails contains blood vessels and nerve tissue. Be very careful not to trim those parts when trimming their nails.

5. If you accidentally cut your cat, quickly soak its bleeding paw in hemostatic powder or corn starch. If the bleeding continues for more than 10 minutes, it is recommended to take the cat to the veterinary hospital for treatment.
