CATDOLL: How to keep tropical ornamental fish

Generally speaking, tropical ornamental fish need to be carefully raised at home to be raised well. The following is my summary of how to raise tropical ornamental fish. I hope you like it!

How to raise tropical ornamental fish 1. To raise good fish, you must first learn to buy good fish: healthy fish swim in the middle and lower layers of the water body (except for the upper layer fish), compete for food, swim naturally and leisurely, have clear and transparent tail fins, clear eyes, and are large. Fish that sink to the bottom, float to the top, swim in a struggling state, have trauma, white hair, white spots, thick and turbid tail fins, serious bloodshot, dark body color, turbid eyes, stay alone, refuse to eat, or rub the tank with their bodies are all sick fish and must not be bought.

2. If you plan to raise several different species of fish in the same tank, you must take into account the compatibility between the different species of fish. Fierce fish and gentle fish cannot be raised together; fish with too many individual differences cannot be raised together (gentle fish species can be considered); fish with different water quality requirements cannot be raised together, etc.

3. When buying, for aggressive and large fish, not only should they be inflated to keep oxygen, but also covered with a black bag to reduce external disturbance to the fish. High-end fish should be packed in separate bags to avoid contact with each other and cause damage. In winter, you should also pay attention to heat preservation when buying fish. The plastic bag for fish must be thick and reliable, especially for those fish with hard fins.

4. Don't rush to put the tropical fish into the tank after you bring them home. You should first immerse the plastic bag containing the fish into the fish tank for ten to twenty minutes before opening it, so that the water in the tank can flow back into the bag several times and slowly mix with the original water in the bag, so that the fish can slowly adapt to the water temperature and water quality. If there is light, turn it off. Fish are calmer in the dark and are not easily frightened.

5. Tropical fish are best suited to living in a temperature range of 24℃-28℃, and can live normally in summer at 32℃. However, if the temperature suddenly changes too much, tropical fish will not be able to adapt. Therefore, before buying fish, you should not only adjust the water temperature of your own aquarium, but also pay attention to the water temperature of the aquarium store and your fish tank. The deviation should not be too large, generally within 4℃. If the water temperature difference between the two is too large, it is better not to buy it temporarily, but also to make an extra trip to adjust the water temperature to basically the same before buying.

6. Do not change too much water in the fish tank at one time, as this will cause water quality discomfort. Water quality includes pH value, hardness, chloride ions, dissolved oxygen, nitrate, sulfide, protein and turbidity. Tropical fish have adapted to living in the original water quality. If all the water is changed, the water quality will suddenly change, and they will not be able to adapt, causing their physical fitness to deteriorate and become sick. If you need to rinse the bottom of the tank, you should also keep most of the old water. After washing the tank, return the remaining water to the tank and add new water.

7. Pay attention to the density of fish. Tropical fish like a large activity space. Beginners often buy the fish they like, and rarely consider how many fish can be kept in the tank. This point needs special attention. The standard is to keep a 1-centimeter-long fish in 1 liter of water. If your fish tank holds 100 liters of water, it is safe to feed at most 10 tropical fish of 10 centimeters in length. I personally insist on keeping about 1.5 liters as the control target. In a larger space, fish are more active, strong, and colorful. Raising too many fish, too high a density, lack of oxygen in the water, and deterioration of water quality are the main causes of tropical fish illness and death.

8. How to feed. When you are watching a fish tank, you should pay attention to feeding the fish once or twice a day, and it is best to finish eating within 3 to 5 minutes. Feed less on rainy days and do not feed at night. Fish need to consume more oxygen in the process of digesting food. On rainy days and at night, the air pressure is lower, and the dissolved oxygen in the water is also low. Feeding fish at this time may cause severe hypoxia in the water and cause fish death. Most fish deaths occur at night, and severe hypoxia in the water is one of the main reasons.

9. The bait must be clean. This is the most easily overlooked by beginners. Feeding unclean bait can easily lead to fish diseases. It is recommended to buy branded frozen fresh food produced by professional companies, such as scarlet worms, brine shrimp, etc. Although live worms such as water earthworms and water red worms are the favorite of tropical fish, live worms grow in polluted water environments and are very easy to die and rot during temporary breeding. Therefore, it is necessary to be cautious when feeding live food.

10. Keep the water clean. After tropical fish eat, they consume a lot of oxygen and excrete a lot of waste, which pollutes the water and breeds bacteria. In order to keep the water clean, a high-performance filter must be installed. If you raise fish in a bare tank, you must replace one-tenth or slightly more of the old water while removing the effluent from the bottom of the tank every day. This must not be neglected, especially in summer. For an ecological tank where fish and aquatic plants are raised together, it is only necessary to replace 1/3~1/4 of the water once a week. The filter can be designed with an aeration system, so that the filter and aeration can be carried out at the same time, which not only purifies the water but also replenishes oxygen. However, aquariums with aquatic plants should not be inflated.

11. Do not bring grease and detergent into the water. Grease will float on the water surface and isolate the air, so that the oxygen in the water cannot be replenished, which will cause tropical fish to die of lack of oxygen. Feeding meat or even applying hand cream on your hands will bring grease into the water, which should be carefully avoided. Therefore, the fish tank should be kept away from places where oil and gas are generated.

12. It is best to start with low-priced and easy-to-raise fish. Once you have accumulated experience, you can then raise expensive species, and you will be able to do it with ease and achieve success.

Necessary equipment for raising tropical fish (1) Fish tank: It is the place where tropical fish grow and move. The fish tank for raising tropical fish must be a slightly larger rectangular glass fish tank.

(2) Suction pipe: It is used to suck out dirt from the bottom of the fish tank when changing water. It is made of a soft rubber tube and a glass tube. The length depends on the height of the fish tank. Generally, it is 1.2 to 1.5 meters.

(3) Thermometer: used to measure and adjust the water temperature of the fish tank.

(4) Fish net: used to catch and transfer tropical fish.

(5) Glass lamp barrel: Place the bulb in the glass lamp barrel and sink it into the fish tank for heating and lighting. The mouth of the glass lamp barrel must be 100mm above the water surface to prevent fish from jumping in.

(6) Electric heating tube: used to increase the temperature inside the fish tank in winter.

(7) Air pump: removes carbon dioxide from the fish tank and increases the oxygen content in the water.

(8) Filter: It filters out dirt in the fish tank, keeps the water clean, and plays a dual role of increasing oxygen and purifying the water.

(9) Thermostat: It is used to automatically control the temperature in the fish tank and can keep the temperature constant for a long time.

(10) Food bucket: It prevents fish food from floating on the water surface, which is beneficial for fish to prey on. It also prevents fish food from falling to the bottom of the water and drilling into the water plants, which will turn the water plants and sand black and deteriorate the water quality.
