It belongs to the phylum Mollusca, class Gastropoda, order Ctenobranchiata, family Cipangodae, genus Cipangodae, and is distributed in all freshwater areas in China. It is also distributed in North Korea, North America, etc.

【Morphological characteristics】 Medium-sized individuals, shell height of about 44.4 mm, width of 27.5 mm. Shell nearly broad conical, with 6-7 whorls, each of which expands outward. The height of the spiral part is greater than the height of the shell mouth, and the body whorl is obviously expanded. The shell is pointed. The suture line is deep. The shell surface is smooth and ribless, and is yellow-brown. The shell mouth is nearly oval, with complete, thin edges and a black frame. The husk is a thin keratinous sheet, smaller than the shell mouth, with concentric growth lines, and the operculum is located in the center of the inner lip.

[Biological characteristics] It lives in lakes, reservoirs, ditches, rice fields, and ponds with lush freshwater plants. It crawls with its wide ventral feet. It has great adaptability to dryness, cold, and heat. When encountering a dry environment, it retracts its soft body into its shell and seals the shell opening with its operculum or burrows into the mud. It hibernates in the mud in winter and emerges from the ground when the spring is warm. It feeds on leaves of aquatic plants and lower algae. It is ovoviviparous, fertilized and developed in vivo. The number of eggs carried by female snails varies from 10 to 100. After developing into young snails, they are gradually expelled from the body. The young snails live freely in the water. The young snails reach sexual maturity after about one year of growth.
