How long does it take for a cicada to emerge from the ground?

It usually takes about 2-3 years for cicadas to emerge from the ground . If you want to shorten the breeding cycle, you can increase the density of trees or keep them at a constant temperature.

When the cicada completes the entire development process of the larval stage, the mature larvae will generally drill out of the ground from late May to mid-to-late August, and crawl to the branches of shrubs, stems of weeds, etc., and then use their claws and thorns on their front feet to fix themselves on the bark, branches and leaves, and finally shed their skin and emerge as adults.

The peak period for the appearance of adults is generally from mid-June to mid-July. After the adults emerge from their pupae, they will mate and lay eggs about 20 days later. Egg-laying usually begins in late June, with the peak period from late June to late August. The end of egg-laying is from mid-September to early October, or the egg-laying ends in early October.

We now artificially breed cicadas in the wild, under trees in natural conditions. From the egg stage to hatching into a cicada ant (1 month) and then growing into a mature nymph (cicada), it takes three winters and summers underground (this is three years for a cicada ).

It starts growing in June of the first year, and its annual weight is only about 1 gram, and its whole body and eyes are milky white.

In the second year, the weight grows to about 3 grams, the pigmentation of the whole body deepens, and the eyes turn pink.

In the third year, the nymphs (cicada) mature, weighing 4.5-5 grams, with an average of 210 per kilogram. At this time, the body color is brown and the eyes are dark gray.
