CATDOLL: How to tell if there are cicada larvae in the hole, or if there is a cicada hole, are there still cicadas?

The time of searching for cicada monkeys can be roughly divided into four stages:

Around 4:30 p.m., use a triangular hoe to scrape off a layer of soil, about half a centimeter thick, around the big tree where the cicada monkeys originally appeared. You can usually see the entrance to a new cicada monkey burrow. During this time period, pay attention to the fact that the "scraping the soil" method is generally not very effective under trees with more old burrows. It is best to look for it under big trees with relatively few and scattered old burrows.

The second time period is about 6 pm. During this time, we mainly look for new cicada monkey holes under the trees. Generally speaking, the hole of a cicada monkey that is about to "emerge" is similar in shape to that of an ant hole, but the difference is that the hole of a cicada monkey will become larger with a slight touch, becoming a hole as thick as a finger. The cicada monkey is usually located a little below the hole. This time period requires "eyesight". Many experienced people can tell the real hole from the fake at a glance. How to get the cicada monkey out of the hole? One method is to dig the hole with an iron tool and take the cicada monkey out directly, but this is easy to injure the cicada monkey and destroy the surrounding environment. Another method is "induction". Insert a small branch from the hole, be careful not to touch the cicada monkey, and lift it up when the cicada monkey grabs the branch.

The third time period is from about 7 to 7:30. At this time, the sky gradually darkens and the cicada monkeys have just come out of the cave. They are usually crawling on the ground around them, preparing to climb trees. At this time, you can just look for them under the big trees with a flashlight.

The last time period is from 8:30 to 9:00, when the cicada monkeys have already climbed up the tree trunks, and can climb to a height almost as high as a person, and can climb several meters high at a fast speed. At this time, you need to use a flashlight to look for it on the tree trunk, and it is best to bring a bamboo pole so that the cicada monkeys that climb high can also reach it.

At the same time, due to the influence of weather and seasons, the above specific time periods will also change constantly, and everyone should continue to explore in practice. Generally speaking, more cicada monkeys will appear after rain, and if there is continuous drought, the number of cicada monkeys will decrease.

Cicadas mostly appear in Shandong. In summer, how to judge whether there are cicada larvae in the hole? There are definitely no cicada larvae in the big hole, because it is the hole left after crawling out. How big is the big hole? The holes that can be inserted into the little finger are all big holes here. The hole with cicada larvae has a relatively small hole. It can be seen that the soil at the hole is relatively thin. A big hole can be made by digging with the hand. There are 100% cicada larvae in such a hole. The size of the small hole is very similar to that of the ant hole, but the big hole cannot be dug out. Cicada larvae cannot be eaten after the first dog days because they are poisonous. They can be eaten before the first dog days. When do cicadas appear? You can find them after the first thunderstorm in summer. Most of them will climb up trees. The best time to catch cicadas is around 18:00 in the evening to 0:00 in the morning.
