CATDOLL: Should I feed my turtles red worms or red nematodes? How should I store these two types of worms?

Red worms and red nematodes are almost the same. If you want to feed red nematodes, you should feed them 2-3 times a day, not too much or too little. You can put the red nematodes in the place where they live. (Please adopt, thank you)

I sincerely suggest you go to professional forums such as [Reptile World], [Turtle Tribe Forum Xunpeng], [Turtle Friends' Home], [Spiritual Turtle Home], [Turtle House], etc., post messages, upload pictures, and consult expert turtle friends. You should study professional medical and breeding knowledge diligently in these forums.

Only in professional forums can you find correct guidance.

I also attach some personal experience I wrote for reference only. This is for healthy turtles. The environment for sick turtles is slightly different, and it is necessary to decide whether to raise them in shallow water or dry water according to the disease. In fact, if the usual breeding method is correct, the turtle will not easily get sick, so the owner must do self-examination:

Many people mistakenly think that turtle = tortoise. In fact, turtle is just one of many species of turtles. You should first determine the species of your turtle. Search for turtle pictures on Baidu and roughly classify it to find out whether it is a water turtle or a land tortoise. If it is a land tortoise, please go to the turtle forum to check relevant information.

If it is a water turtle or a semi-aquatic turtle, such as the golden coin turtle, red-eared slider, grass turtle, yellow-throated turtle, etc., it is better to keep small turtles in water, while large turtles can be kept free-range.

Especially for red-eared sliders, which are aquatic turtles after all, they cannot be away from water for a long time.

If you raise them in a free-range environment, they should be kept in water most of the time except for basking in the sun in the morning and taking some exercises.

It can be kept in shallow or deep water. The surface of shallow water is generally just above the turtle shell. When keeping it in deep water, put stones and other objects in the water for the turtle to climb up to prevent choking.

When the water temperature is above 24 degrees, feed the turtles once a day if they are smaller than the size of a palm, and feed the big turtles once every 2-3 days. Feed fish, shrimp, loach and other staple foods, and feed bloodworms and mealworms as side dishes in rotation. Ensure food diversity. It is not that you cannot feed turtle food, but it is just like instant noodles, with a single nutrition, and should not be used as a staple food. Do not feed other things randomly. Do not eat too much at each meal, so as not to affect the digestive function of the stomach and intestines. It is also not advisable to feed when the water temperature is too low to avoid gastroenteritis. Or use a heating rod to heat the water to above 24 degrees before feeding.

Cooked food, salty food, and rotten food are strictly prohibited. Bread, rice, biscuits, ham, etc. are strictly prohibited. Change the water twice a week and clean the tank. It is best to air the tap water for more than 24 hours before use. Be careful not to make a big difference in water temperature before and after changing the water. When it is cold, the temperature difference between the room temperature and the water temperature should not be too large. Please use a thermometer to measure accurately. Otherwise, a large temperature difference can easily lead to colds or pneumonia.

There are many reasons for not eating. Maybe the new turtle has not adapted to the environment yet. You should put the water tank in a quiet, warm, dark environment and disturb it less. You can put fish, shrimp, loach, etc. in the water. Maybe the wrong food you gave is not suitable for its taste. Maybe the water temperature is too low. At least you should use a heating rod to heat the water to about 25 degrees or above. Maybe it is due to other diseases that lead to loss of appetite. Maybe there is something wrong with the function of the stomach itself. These reasons should be checked one by one and observed frequently.

Let the turtle bask in the sun frequently in the morning for about an hour to avoid sunburn. However, sick turtles should not be exposed to the sun.

Give it some water, higher than it can cover its head when it does not raise its head. (First, you need to find out whether it is a land turtle or a water turtle, and what kind of turtle it is. I am talking about water turtles. Land turtles seem to be hanging food, that is, put the food on the nose so that the turtle can smell it, and then it will open its mouth. I don’t know the details, check Baidu) Then tear the food (I throw pork, but don’t throw cooked meat! ! !) into pieces less than 3 cm long and less than 5 mm thick. Throw it into the water, near the turtle’s mouth, it will see or smell it, and then eat it. If the turtle is the size of a palm, it may not eat the food (I think so). You wait for an hour or two. If the turtle does not eat, take out the meat and throw it away (do not refrigerate! ! Must throw it away! ! !) Also, put the turtle in a basin where it will not escape, get water, and wash the sand 10-20 times! ! ! ! Do not use tap water, use purified water or boiled water! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

And when the turtle hibernates, you can cover it with sand, leaving its head exposed, and put less water in it, just keep it moist! Sprinkle some water when it is dry! The turtle can be placed next to the heater, but don't move it around, it will easily catch a cold! !

Turtles are very resilient and won’t die of starvation if they are not fed for a few days!! But it is best to feed them every day
