CATDOLL: How many species of scorpions are there?

1. How many species of scorpions are there?

Scorpions, also known as whole scorpions or whole insects, are one of the oldest known terrestrial arthropods. Scorpions belong to the phylum Arthropoda, class Arachnida, order Scorpios, and family Scorpiosida. Scorpions prefer warmth and are widely distributed in most parts of the world except the frigid zone. There are more than 1,000 species of scorpions in the world, and more than 15 species in my country. The wide distribution environment of scorpions determines their variety. For example, the Tibetan scorpion distributed in Tibet and western Sichuan; the spotted scorpion distributed in Taiwan Province; the ten-legged scorpion distributed in the border areas of Henan, Shaanxi, and Hubei provinces; and the East Asian Scorpion widely distributed in Henan, Hebei, Shandong, Fujian, Taiwan and other places.

As far as my country is concerned, it is distributed from Hainan Island in the south to Heilongjiang in the north. The most widely distributed of them is the East Asian scorpion, which is mainly distributed in the northeast provinces of my country and parts of provinces and autonomous regions such as Henan, Shandong, Hebei, Shanxi, Shaanxi, Anhui, Jiangsu, Fujian, Tibet, and Taiwan. As people continue to develop scorpion resources and do not pay attention to environmental protection, the ecological environment is deteriorating. In nature, the number of scorpions is constantly decreasing, and there is even a risk of extinction. Therefore, artificial breeding of scorpions has been put on the agenda, and now the technology of artificial scorpion breeding has been improved. The following introduction refers specifically to the East Asian scorpion.

The adult East Asian scorpion is generally 4 to 6 cm long (female scorpions are about 5.2 cm long, male scorpions are about 4.8 cm long). The back of the trunk, the end of the tail and the end of the stinger are gray-brown and purple-brown, and the rest of the body is yellow-orange. The body is divided into three parts: the cephalothorax, the anterior abdomen, and the posterior abdomen. The cephalothorax and the anterior abdomen are collectively called the trunk, which is flat and long oval. The posterior abdomen is tail-shaped, commonly known as the tail, but it is not actually a tail because there is no digestive tract inside the tail. The whole body is shaped like a pipa.

The entire body of a scorpion is composed of 14 segments, each of which has a dorsal plate and a ventral surface. The segments are connected by intersegmental membranes and can be freely extended and retracted. The body cavity contains organs of the digestive, excretory, respiratory, nervous and reproductive systems, each with its own special physiological function.
