Cicadas are a family of insects in the order Hemiptera, suborder Necklacera. They are commonly known as cicadas or jieluozha. They live in temperate to tropical regions of the world (about 2,500 species of cicadas have been recorded). Some species distributed in desert areas will expel excess water from their back plates when their body temperature is overheated, thereby achieving the effect of cooling and heat dissipation.

The male has a sound organ on its abdomen, which can continuously make sharp sounds. The female does not make sounds, but has an auditory organ on its abdomen. The larvae live in the soil, sucking the roots of plants, and the adults eat the sap of plants. Cicadas are incomplete metamorphosis, from eggs to larvae (nymphs), they undergo a molt, and become adults without going through the pupal period.

Emperor cicada, spring cicada, winter cicada, mountain cicada, oil cicada and red-eyed cicada.
