CATDOLL: What is the black medicine planting technology?

1. Site selection and burning: Black grass likes sunlight, is drought-resistant, cold-resistant, and barren. It can grow fast even on hard and compacted barren grass slopes. You can choose uncultivated original yellow slope grasslands. As long as there is sufficient sunlight and no water accumulation on the hillsides, corners of fields, wastelands, and yellow soil is the best planting area. After selecting the land, weeds and shrubs should be cut off on the flat ground before sowing, spread them flat on the ground, and then burned after drying. This can not only improve soil fertility, but also kill pathogens in the soil. After burning the weeds, choose a sunny day to sweep the ground with a bamboo broom, and sweep the thickly deposited fire ash thinly and evenly to avoid the black grass seeds not contacting the soil after sowing and not being able to absorb water to germinate. It can also prevent the seeds from falling on the fire soil ash and being washed away by rain. Since black grass seeds are very small and light, they are easily washed away by muddy water and buried in deep soil when sown in loose soil. After the seeds germinate, they cannot break through the soil due to their weak ability to push the soil, and often the phenomenon of no seedlings appears after sowing occurs. This is the fundamental reason why we need to cultivate in a simulated wild natural ecological environment. Therefore, there is no need to fully cultivate the land after burning it. The seeds can be directly sown on the hard and compacted slope ground, which saves both labor and effort.

2. Sowing season: Black grass is directly propagated by seeds, and the suitable sowing period is from the end of October to before the Qingming Festival of the following year. Since black grass seeds are relatively small, the sowing amount is 80-100 grams per mu. In order to sow evenly, 10 kg of fine sand can be used to mix the seeds and sow them on the burned ground. There is no need to cover the seeds with fine soil. Do not let cattle and sheep enter the black grass after sowing. If there is no barren ridge grassland, you can also choose yellow mud plots that have been planted with crops to plant black grass. There is no need to plow. Open a 1.5-meter-wide box, press the ground to determine the length, open drainage ditches around, shovel the mud in the box ditch onto the ground of the ridge, rake it flat, and use a wooden board to flatten the loose mud and pat it tightly. In the sowing season, mix the seeds with river sand and sow them on the ridge surface. There is no need to cover the seeds with mud, but a layer of grass should be covered to keep moisture and increase temperature, and the emergence of seedlings should be checked frequently. When the emergence is about 50%, you can choose to remove the cover grass twice in the afternoon of a cloudy day. Generally, the seedlings will emerge 2-3 months after sowing.

3. Field management: After the black grass seedlings emerge, let them grow naturally. There is no need to weed and loosen the soil. Do not apply any farmyard manure, let alone chemical fertilizers or pesticides. During the seedling growth period, if the weeds are taller than the black grass seedlings, it will affect the black grass from bathing in the sun and rain. In order to increase the yield, the tail of the weeds can be cut off and thrown outside the planting site, so that the black grass can grow rapidly in a pollution-free natural ecological environment.

4. Harvesting and processing: Black grass grows fast and can grow to about 100 cm in one year. After the black grass blooms in autumn, it can be harvested on a sunny day. The whole grass should be pulled up with the roots, and the roots should be neatly and flatly placed, tied into small bundles, and dried in the sun until 70% to 80% dry. After being sealed for 2 days, it is dried again. The quality standard is that the whole grass is black, the stems are young and tender, the inflorescences are long and numerous, and it is fully dry without mold and deterioration.
