CATDOLL: Is a sea urchin sting poisonous?

1. Is a sea urchin sting poisonous?

It seems that only large deep-sea sea urchins have it. The ones near the coast and the ones we usually eat have very small amounts of toxins and will not affect anything. I wish you happiness.

2. Is it poisonous to be stung by a boiled sea urchin?

, it should be fine after the high temperature,

3. Are there any sea urchins without spines?

No.

Sea urchins are divided into poisonous and non-toxic. Some sea urchins contain toxins on their spines.

How to identify poisonous sea urchins: Poisonous sea urchins look much prettier than non-poisonous ones, and their colors may be brighter. The picture shows a sea urchin with thorns (the spines are poisonous):

Emergency treatment and prevention of sea urchin stings:

① After being stung by a sea urchin, carefully check the wound for any remaining sea urchin spines and take surgical measures if necessary.

Take it out, and then apply anti-inflammatory, anti-itching and analgesic lotion to prevent secondary infection; [First Aid]

② If you experience symptoms of poisoning after being stung by a sea urchin, you should go to the hospital immediately for treatment; [First Aid]

③ Fishermen or scientific researchers and explorers should strengthen personal protection when working at sea, wear gloves, and avoid touching sea urchins with their hands to avoid being stung by sea urchins; [Prevention]

④ Tourists playing in the reefs or shallow sandy sea areas should also take personal protection measures to avoid contact or touching sea urchins. [Prevention]

After being stung by a sea urchin, there may be several symptoms of poisoning:

① After being stung by a sea urchin, you will immediately feel burning and severe pain. The pain can last for several hours, and the skin will bleed. Soon after, edema and erythema will appear around the wound, and occasionally blisters will appear. The rash will gradually subside in 1-2 weeks.

② Within one year after the injury, a round, hard nodule of about 0.2-0.5 cm in size appears locally, either single or multiple. The surface of the nodule is warty, hard, and light red or blue. It is generally painless or slightly tender, and often occurs on the hands. This granuloma nodule may be caused by the tip of the brittle and easily broken spines remaining in the skin after the sea urchin pierces the skin, forming a foreign body granuloma several months later.

③ Infiltrative plaque damage can occur simultaneously with granuloma or alone. A few months after the skin is punctured, diffuse dark red infiltrates appear locally, mostly on the fingers. Later, the fingers may develop fusiform deformities, with localized bone destruction and symptoms of synovitis in the adjacent finger joints, which restricts the movement of the fingers. This symptom does not heal for a long time, and a few can be absorbed naturally.

④ Because the venom or neurotoxins in the sea urchin are injected into the human body, in addition to causing local skin damage, systemic poisoning symptoms of varying degrees may sometimes occur, such as dizziness, headache, palpitations, low blood pressure, difficulty breathing, facial paralysis, and even systemic paralysis and death.

4. What should I do if a sea urchin spine is left in my heel? Is it poisonous? What are the symptoms?

It's not poisonous, just pull it out
