Razor clam farming is very common. What are the taboos in razor clam farming?

Razor clams with poor breeding environment like to live in calm, smooth-tide, soft-bottomed inner bays. They grow very fast in this environment. If the breeding ground is poor, the bottom is sticky, the air permeability is poor, and the pollution of seawater or bottom will cause a large number of deaths. Prevention method: Selecting a good breeding site is the basis for breeding razor clams. In order to prevent the site from aging during the breeding process, the bottom material should be raked and leveled regularly, which can be cleaned manually or mechanically, and then naturally washed with the fluctuation of seawater.

The main reason for the mass death of clams due to high stocking density is that high stocking density easily leads to lack of bait, which causes the clams to lack sufficient nutrition, resulting in weak constitution and slow growth. However, in the late stage of reproduction, weak clams are difficult to move and easily float to the surface, leading to death. Prevention method: Reasonable stocking density. Due to different breeding environments in different regions, there is no strict standard for stocking density.

But generally speaking, in areas with good breeding conditions, more stocking can be appropriately carried out, and the breeding density can be appropriately increased for small-scale breeding; but in areas with poor breeding conditions, the breeding density should be appropriately reduced. Climate factors such as changeable climate, high temperature, heavy rain, low pressure, and strong winds (typhoons, etc.) have caused a large number of cricket deaths: 4-5 consecutive rainy days, with precipitation greater than 3000mm; the temperature is above 30 degrees for 3-4 consecutive days; the weather pressure is below 1001 millibars for 3-4 consecutive days; when the tide is high, a force 8 gale will blow the clams directly out of the beach and pile them up to death. Preventive measures: For these climate factors, human power cannot control them. Only by strengthening management can losses be avoided. Drainage measures should be taken on long rainy days; when the temperature is high, the clams should be moved to low tide in a planned manner.

Disease is also one of the reasons for the mass death of clams, especially during high temperature periods, when clams are susceptible to disease. Once an infectious disease occurs, the clams will quickly rot at high temperatures after death, contaminating the substrate, and then infecting the entire farmland in a short period of time, causing mass deaths. Prevention methods: Pay attention to disease prevention and control. The area should disinfect and sterilize the site to inhibit the growth of pathogens, treat the disease in a timely manner, strengthen management, remove dead clams in a timely manner, disinfect the site comprehensively, and improve the substrate.

The cultivation and prospects of olive razor clams

There are two ways to culture olive clams, namely monoculture and polyculture. Because olive clams are filter-feeding organisms, they mainly filter algae, bacteria and organic debris in the water body, so they do not need to be fed any feed when they are cultured alone. They only need to apply inorganic fertilizers or use grass, rape stalks and other compost to cultivate algae and bacteria. The objects of polyculture include grass carp, Wuchang fish, yellow catfish, etc. Although silver carp, like olive clams, also filter algae and bacteria, they live in different waters, so olive clams can also be co-cultured with silver carp, but there should be no carnivorous fish such as black carp and mandarin fish in the waters where olive clams are cultured, so as to avoid harming the larvae of olive clams. The waters for culture can be lake mouths and river estuaries connected to the river, as well as water bodies with rapid currents and large annual water level changes. From December to March of each year, the water levels of many water bodies are low or even dry, making it easier to harvest olive clams. To harvest olive clams, a long bamboo pole with a curved hook at the end can be used. Workers standing on the boat extend the bamboo pole to the bottom of the water and use the curved hook to hook up the clams.
