Key points of river crab farming technology, how long is the farming cycle?

River crabs are the most important freshwater crabs in China. They have tender meat, delicious taste and are extremely nutritious. Due to the strong adaptability of river crabs and their wide breeding range, the scale of breeding has increased rapidly in recent years, bringing good economic benefits to farmers.

1. Key points of river crab breeding technology

1. Site selection and pool construction

Choose a place with open terrain, sufficient water source and good light to build a pond. The pond area is about 20-50 square meters, the pond depth is about 50 cm, and the water depth is about 30 cm. The pond must be disinfected before use, and then aquatic plants need to be planted before the crab seedlings can be put in.

2. Feeding management

In the early stage of breeding, eggs and fish paste can be mixed and steamed in a ratio of 1:5, mixed with water into a slurry, and then poured into the pond for feeding every 4 hours. In the later stage, river crabs can be fed with crushed snail meat, bean cakes, soybean paste and other protein foods.

3. Crab disease prevention and treatment

When breeding river crabs, quicklime should be regularly sprayed on the water surface to kill bacteria. The amount of spraying should be controlled within 10 kg per mu. If sick or dead crabs are found, they should be immediately removed and isolated. Antibiotics can be fed to river crabs from May to September each year to improve their disease resistance.

2. How long is the river crab breeding cycle?

1. The breeding cycle of river crabs

The breeding period of river crabs is generally no more than one and a half years. The life span of river crabs is relatively short. They only have one reproductive cycle in their lifetime, and their life ends when reproduction ends.

2. Lifespan of river crabs

(1) The life span of river crabs is closely related to their gender, the time of maturation of their gonads, and the ecological environment. For a group of river crabs, the average life span is 2 years. After completing their reproductive migration and reproducing offspring, they will tend to die.

(2) Starting from the megalopa larvae, the life span of male crabs is 22 months, of which 16-18 months are spent in freshwater areas, and 4-6 months are spent in shallow estuary waters. The most concentrated death period is from April to May.

(3) Because of the need to carry eggs and incubate offspring, the lifespan of female crabs is generally 24 months (2 full months), and the most common time of death is between June and July.
