CATDOLL: How should we raise turtledoves if we want to improve the economic benefits of artificial breeding?

If you want to improve the economic benefits of artificially breeding turtledoves, how should you do it?

The turtledove is a general term for medium-sized birds of the Columbidae family and the genus Turtle Dove. It is also known as pheasant dove, quail, and wheatear. There are 15 species in the world, widely distributed in Asia, Europe and Africa, and distributed in all parts of my country. They like to live in mountains, fields, forests and other habitats. Representative species include the spotted dove, the fire dove, the mountain dove, etc.

The upper body feathers of the turtledove are mainly brown, the head and neck are gray-brown, dyed with wine brown; the forehead and top of the head are gray or blue-gray, there is a black feather with blue-gray feather edges on each side of the base of the neck, and the feather edges of the shoulder feathers are reddish brown; the upper back is brown, and the lower back to the waist are blue-gray; the tip of the tail is blue-gray, and the central tail feathers are brown; the chin and throat are pink; the lower body is reddish brown, and the male and female plumage are similar.

So if we want to improve the economic benefits of artificially breeding turtledoves, how should we breed them?

1. Select the bird

The selection of turtledoves is very important. People usually select them by size. The older they are, the more popular they are. The ones around half a year old are the best. In fact, some relatively small, very agile, with messy feathers, and young turtledoves that like to fly are the first choice for breeding birds. Such turtledoves are wild and energetic, and the survival rate of the next generation will be much higher. Secondly, their antibodies to bacteria will also be much higher.

2. Construction of turtledove breeding site

Since turtledoves are flying species, in order to be close to their living habits, the breeding cages are generally built at a height of about 2 meters from the ground, and some wood needs to be hung in the middle for the turtledoves to rest. The size of the bird cage depends on the number of birds raised. Generally, 150 birds are about 20 square meters and the height is about 1.5-1.2 meters. It is mainly divided into three areas: feeding area, resting area, and bird's nest. The feeding area should be bright and spacious. In the resting area, some small boxes can be placed on the hanging branches to put some seeds and fruits to supplement the nutrition of the feeding area. The bird's nest should be less bright and have some grass inside.

3. Turtle dove breeding and management

Birds like turtledoves need to eat small and frequent meals, otherwise it is easy to cause indigestion. They should be fed 4-5 times a day, usually with ground corn, soybeans and other mixed feed. Drinking water should be controlled in particular. Turtledoves drink very little water, so the water feeding vessel should be wide, and the water should be 1-2 cm deep. If it is too deep, the turtledoves will be easily drowned. It is best to feed some fresh fruits or vegetables from time to time on a daily basis, which can provide water supplements and vitamins.

Additional information:

In fact, turtledove breeding is a good breeding project. According to the experience of several experts in breeding turtledoves in recent years, in terms of species selection, you can choose turtledoves with strong ornamental and playful properties, such as white-spotted doves, which are often called magic pigeons, or Taiwan gray turtledoves. These are all artificially domesticated mature species, and it is easy to mate and breed; the introduced species have not been through the wild environment, and all have been immunized; this type of turtledove can be bred in cages, which greatly saves breeding space, and has the advantages of small appetite and resistance to cold and heat. The most important point is that the market price of ornamental turtledoves is ten times higher than that of wild doves for food because of their unparalleled ease of taming.
