CATDOLL: Treatment and prevention of rheumatism in pigs

What is swine rheumatism

Porcine rheumatic disease, also known as porcine reproductive and wasting syndrome (PRRS), is a disease caused by porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus. The disease is mainly transmitted through the respiratory and reproductive tracts, causing serious effects on the growth and reproductive capacity of pigs, and is prone to cause complications of other infectious diseases.

Treatment

At present, the following measures are mainly used for the treatment of pig rheumatism:

  1. Virus isolation : isolate infected pigs to prevent the spread of the disease. Ensure the infected pigs’ environment is clean and hygienic to reduce the risk of cross infection.
  2. Improve immunity : Use vaccines for preventive vaccination to enhance the pig's own immunity. The choice of vaccine and the time of vaccination should be based on the condition and the advice of the veterinarian.
  3. Rational use of drugs : Antiviral drugs, antibiotics, etc. can be used to treat the symptoms caused by swine rheumatism, but you should consult a professional veterinarian before using the drugs.
  4. Improve feeding conditions : provide a clean and comfortable feeding environment, ensure the normal nutritional intake and living habits of pigs, and enhance the resistance of pigs.

Precautions

In addition to treatment methods, the prevention of swine rheumatism is also very important. Here are some preventive measures:

  • Strengthen epidemic monitoring : Conduct virus testing on pig farms regularly to understand the health status of pigs in a timely manner and take corresponding control measures for the epidemic.
  • Strict biosafety measures : Strengthen the disinfection of pig houses and control the source of virus transmission inside and outside the pig farm. At the same time, strengthen personal hygiene measures such as hand washing and changing work clothes for employees.
  • Take isolation measures : isolate and observe newly purchased pigs to ensure their health and prevent the spread of the epidemic.
  • Reasonably adjust stocking density : avoid overcrowding in pig farms, reasonably control the density of pigs, and reduce the risk of disease transmission.

In general, the treatment methods for swine rheumatism mainly include virus isolation, improving immunity, rational use of drugs and improving feeding conditions. At the same time, preventive measures are also very important, including strengthening epidemic monitoring, biosafety measures, isolation measures and rational adjustment of feeding density. Through comprehensive measures, the occurrence and spread of swine rheumatism can be effectively controlled.
