CATDOLL: Breeding process and precautions of minks

The breeding process of mink

The mink (Mustela putorius furo) is a small mammal that is often used as a pet and for fur jewelry. If you own a mink and want to breed it, here is the breeding process for minks:

  1. Choose suitable breeding partners: When breeding, you must first choose suitable minks of the opposite sex as mates and ensure that they are in good health and have genetic advantages.
  2. Determine the breeding time: The breeding season for minks is generally in spring and autumn, when the reproductive system of minks is more active and the probability of successful breeding is higher.
  3. Leading the mink into estrus: When female minks are in estrus, they will show obvious behavioral changes, such as raising their tails, sniffing frequently, etc. Male minks will also attract the opposite sex through smell and behavior.
  4. Observe mating behavior: After the female mink enters estrus, place the male mink in the female mink's cage and observe whether they engage in mating behavior, which is usually a short process that takes only a few minutes.
  5. Confirming pregnancy: After successful mating, the female mink will become pregnant, and the gestation period is generally 40-44 days. You can observe whether the female mink has signs such as weight gain and behavioral changes.

Matters Needing Attention in Breeding Minks

When breeding minks, you need to pay attention to the following points:

  • Health Check: Before breeding, make sure both male and female dogs have passed a veterinary health check and received necessary vaccinations and deworming.
  • Environmental preparation: Provide the female mink with a quiet, spacious and clean breeding environment so that she feels comfortable and safe when giving birth.
  • Diet adjustment: During the pregnancy period, female minks need to be given appropriate nutritional supplements, and attention should be paid to controlling the amount and quality of their diet. The diet should contain sufficient protein and vitamins.
  • Preparing for labor: The female mink will prepare to give birth about a week before the end of the gestation period. Prepare a comfortable nest and make sure there is plenty of clean, warm bedding material.
  • Care of pups: After the pups are born, the female mink will be responsible for feeding and caring for them. Do not interfere too much so as not to disrupt the parent-child relationship between the mother mink and the pups.

By following the above steps and precautions, you can successfully help your mink to breed and produce cute mink babies.
