CATDOLL: Why do pigs vomit after getting an injection?

As an important livestock breeding animal, pigs often need to receive various drug treatments, including injections. However, some farmers may observe that pigs vomit after injections. Why is this?

1. Side effects of medication

First of all, we need to make it clear that the vomiting of pigs after the injection may be due to the side effects of the drug. Some drugs will irritate the pig's gastric mucosa during treatment, causing stomach discomfort and vomiting reactions. This situation is usually temporary, and the pig's symptoms will gradually ease as the drug is metabolized and excreted.

2. Improper injection location

In addition, the location of drug injection may also cause adverse reactions in pigs. If the syringe needle is not accurately inserted into the subcutaneous tissue or muscle tissue of the pig, the drug may penetrate into the subcutaneous or muscle space of the pig and cause local discomfort. In this case, the pig may experience local swelling, redness and pain, and may be accompanied by vomiting.

3. Gastrointestinal infection

In addition, pigs may vomit after injections because of gastrointestinal infections. After receiving external stimulation, the pig's immune system may be in a certain state of immunosuppression. In this state, the pig is more susceptible to bacteria, viruses and other pathogens, leading to gastrointestinal infections and vomiting.

4. Eating too early

Finally, pigs may also vomit due to eating too early after the injection. After the injection, the pig's gastrointestinal tract may be temporarily disturbed to a certain extent. At this time, if the pig eats too much food too early, it may cause stomach pain and discomfort, leading to vomiting.

In summary, vomiting after injection may be caused by drug side effects, improper injection site, gastrointestinal infection or premature feeding. If the vomiting symptoms of pigs last for a long time or are accompanied by other discomfort symptoms, it is recommended that livestock farmers consult a veterinarian in time and treat the pigs.
