CATDOLL: Prospects of grasshopper farming (how are the benefits of grasshopper farming)

Abstract: [Prospects of grasshopper breeding]

Locusts, also known as grasshoppers, have been eaten in my country since ancient times. They are considered a pest because they attack monocotyledonous crops such as corn. However, due to their crispy and delicious taste and rich in methylcellulose, they have always been regarded as a delicacy at barbecue stalls and dining tables. Locusts are not only delicious, but also a good medicine for treating diseases. They have good effects on treating tetanus, infantile convulsions, whooping cough, cough, shortness of breath, spasm, and internal wind. They also have the functions of lowering blood pressure, losing weight, lowering cholesterol, nourishing and strengthening, and strengthening the spleen. They have high edible value and medicinal value.

1. What is the prospect of grasshopper farming?

Artificial breeding of locusts is indeed a good way to get rich. It requires little investment, has a broad market, is not labor-intensive, can be bred by men, women, young and old, and has a short breeding cycle. Locusts like to live in groups, so it doesn't matter if the density is high. Their main food is monocotyledonous weeds. It would be better if some corn or wheat seedlings can be planted. If conditions permit, special forage grass can also be planted. Breeding is simple.

Locusts are in good demand, both fresh and frozen. Most restaurants in cities buy them, especially in some areas of Shandong, where a seafood market needs dozens of tons a year, such as Qingzhou and Binzhou. In Wudi and other places, Japanese and Australian merchants set up purchasing points all year round.

In addition to breeding and hatching, locust eggs can also be sold directly as food and can be canned. In addition to supplying the domestic market, they are also exported to Japan, Australia and Southeast Asian countries. The annual demand is more than 1,000 tons, while the total amount of locusts purchased domestically is only tens of tons, which is far from meeting market demand. Therefore, the prospects for raising locusts are very good.

2. What are the benefits of grasshopper farming?

If we calculate based on the initial introduction of 10,000 locusts, it will cost about 1,200 yuan (including 1,000 yuan for introduction and 200 yuan for shed construction). Calculated based on the minimum hatching rate of 90%, 9,000 adults can be obtained, half of which are males and half are females. Each female can lay 40 to 90 eggs, based on the minimum of 40 eggs, and 180,000 adults can be obtained. Adding 4,500 males, there are a total of 184,500 locusts, about 300 per catty, and a total of 615 catties. Calculated based on the estimated price of 8 yuan per catty, 4,920 yuan can be obtained. After deducting the cost of introduction and shed construction of 1,200 yuan, the income can be 3,720 yuan. After deducting the cost of expanding the shed in the later stage of about 500 yuan and the fodder of 200 yuan (cutting the grass in the wild by yourself, there is almost no cost), the net income from raising locusts can be more than 3,000 yuan.
