CATDOLL: What color are the molting cicadas in the park?

1. What color are the cicadas that have shed their shells in the park?

The cicadas in the park that have shed their shells are milky yellow.

The golden cicada is actually the larva of the cicada. It lives in the ground for several years and only crawls out of the ground to shed its skin and emerge as a young insect after it has fully developed. The idiom "a cicada sheds its skin" refers to this insect.

The process of shedding the shell

When the cicada pupa has a crack on its back, the cicada begins to shed its shell. It takes about half an hour for the cicada to completely emerge from its shell. After it emerges, the cicada grasps the pupa shell and begins to molt. Its soft wings slowly unfold, and it takes about 20 minutes for the wings to fully unfold. At this time, the cicada is soft and light green with a hint of blue. As time goes by, the cicada's body slowly turns black, its wings turn white and hard, and it climbs higher and higher, and can fly after dawn.

Why do cicadas shed their shells?

There is a relatively hard skin on the surface of the cicada's body. This skin prevents the internal substances from flowing out and prevents the invasion of harmful substances from the outside. This is very unfavorable to the growth of cicada larvae, and it restricts the growth of the young cicada's body. In order for the growth of cicada larvae, they need to shed their shells frequently.
