1. How to separate dead red worms

In our daily fishing process, red worms are an indispensable bait, especially in seasons with relatively low water temperatures. Its bite rate is much higher than other baits, showing good fish luring performance.

During the storage period of red worms, no matter what method you use, the death of red worms is inevitable. According to my own practical experience, the more convenient way to store red worms is to put 50 grams of red worms in a stainless steel or glass container, and then put some clean water in it, with the water level about 15 mm higher than the red worms. Then put it in the refrigerator. Every three or two days, pick out the dead red worms with bamboo tweezers or stainless steel tweezers, then rinse them several times with water of the same temperature, and replace them with new water to continue to store them. The biggest advantage of using this method is that you can go fishing at any time without worrying about having no bait.

To preserve a small number of red worms, you can use the above method and pick out the dead red worms one by one. If you have a lot of red worms, it will be impossible to pick them out one by one.

First of all, we must make it clear that living red worms can move, while dead red worms cannot. By making full use of this point, it is relatively easy to separate dead and living red worms. The following is a method I have used before.

1. Slope separation method

First, you need to find a piece of wood with a width of 300 mm to 400 mm. The length can be chosen by you according to the situation. Then find a few newspapers and all the materials are ready.

First, spread newspapers on the table, then put the board on the table, put something under the board to make the board present a slope of about 20 degrees, spread newspapers on the board, and then you can put the cleaned red worms on the top of the slope. The red worms are in a strip shape at the top of the slope, and the width is preferably within 40 mm, which is conducive to the movement of the red worms to the bottom of the slope.

The placed red worms will slowly wriggle, and the water contained in the red worms will flow to the lower part. Under the action of gravity, the two will gradually move to the lower end of the slope. The living red worms will move to the lower part every time they move, and the dead red worms will mostly stay in place, and the red worms will be separated in this way. The biggest disadvantage of using this method is that the separation is not very clean, and there are often a small number of living red worms still mixed with the dead red worms.

2. Live insect drilling method

First, you need a container with many holes on it, such as the plastic products used for washing vegetables, bamboo sieves, etc. The holes on it should be about four millimeters. Then find a wash basin, which should be larger than the former. First, put half a basin of water in the wash basin, then put two broken chopsticks in the basin, and finally put the red worms in the water, and then put the container with many holes in the water. Because the chopsticks bear the weight, the red worms in the water can still move freely.

It is the instinct of animals to seek hiding places when they feel uneasy. Red worms will also seek hiding places during movement. They will find holes to drill into, so that they rise into the new container and separate from the dead red worms.

Using this separation method, you need to pour the separated red worms into another container within an hour to prevent them from drilling back in. This method can separate most of the living red worms. When the number of living red worms is far less than that of dead red worms, it is difficult to continue separating.
