CATDOLL: How to feed eels

1. How to feed eels

Tips for feeding eels:

1. Observe the body surface of young eels: the yellow eel has red blood clots and rots on its body surface, which is skin rot; the tail is white and fluffy, which is Saprolegniasis; the head is large and the body is thin, and even stiff and curled, trembling, which is internal parasitic disease; the anus is red, swollen and inflamed, which is enteritis. In addition, young eels with weak bodies, little mucus, and floating heads are all bad eels and should be removed.

2. Pond disinfection: Before planting seedlings, the pond should be fully disinfected. Soak the cement pond in quicklime water for 3 to 7 days, then add clean water and soak for 15 to 30 days, so that moss grows on the bottom of the pond. After disinfection, put loaches in the pond for disinfection detection. If loaches float in 1 to 4 hours, swim wildly in the water, or die, it means that the disinfection of the cement pond has not yet achieved the desired effect. The disinfection soaking time should be extended.

3. Cast nets and plant grass: Cage eels cannot do without water grass. Water grass has the function of providing shade and allowing eels to attach to it. The species are generally water hyacinth and river vine. The eel's feces is just the fertilizer for water grass. Water grass usually occupies about 70% to 80% of the cage or cement pool.

4. Planting and feeding: The trick to planting is to look at the weather. You should pay attention to weather changes 5 to 7 days in advance to ensure that the planting is on a sunny day; the water temperature is stable at around 25 degrees Celsius; the temperature difference between day and night does not exceed 5 degrees; the highest water temperature does not exceed 35 degrees; and the egg-carrying and spawning period of the eel is excluded. If these conditions are met, the planting can be done.

5. Grading of seedlings: Feeding is critical for the future growth and survival of eels. 3-5 days after seedlings are planted, young eels that do not eat or eat little should be dealt with in time. Eel seedlings can be fed without feeding for two to three days before seedlings are planted in the pond, and then fed with feed later. The feed can be composed of maggots, earthworms, snail meat and other feeds.

6. During the feeding process, it is best to do three things: first, listen to see whether the eels eat evenly; second, look to see how many eels open their mouths to eat; third, observe how much bait is left the next morning, whether there are any abnormal conditions with the eels, and whether the eels leave the water plants to move around during the day.

1. Choose a pond with good water quality, no pollution source, and little external interference. Use bamboo to build a support in the pond and fix the four corners of the net cage on the support. Set up a feeding table in each net cage. Because yellow eels have the habit of cannibalizing each other, the stocking specifications are basically the same, generally 20 to 50 grams per tail.

2. The stocking time of eels should be chosen in April, May, or August to September to avoid the sexual maturity and reproduction period of eels from mid-May to July. The most suitable temperature for the growth of eels is 24 to 28 degrees Celsius.

3. Feeding should be done at regular times. Eels hide during the day and come out at night. It is best to feed them between 6 and 8 p.m. The feed should be fresh and must not be spoiled by mold. The feed should be washed before feeding, and then soaked in 3 to 5 grams of salt per cubic meter of water for 10-20 minutes, and then rinsed with clean water before feeding. Generally, small freshwater fish are selected, and the daily amount of feed is 3%-5% of the total weight of the eels in the cage.

4. When feeding artificially, the eels are fed a large amount of feed, and the feces discharged by the eels are easy to pollute the water quality, so new water should be added frequently to keep the water fresh. Change the water every 7 to 10 days in spring and every 3 to 5 days in summer.

The cages must also be disinfected regularly, using 10 grams of bleach per cubic meter of water and spraying it throughout the pond.

5. After stocking, a proper amount of loach can be stocked in the cages. The habit of loach to swim up and down can be used to divert and increase oxygen, and can also eliminate the residual bait of eels. A certain amount of silver carp can be stocked in the pond to adjust the water quality.

Clean the cages in time, remove excess debris and attached algae, and keep the water exchange inside and outside the cages unobstructed. Plant water plants, preferably water hyacinth and water peanuts in the cages to provide a good place for the eels to grow and live. When transplanting water peanuts, it is best to remove the roots, wash them, and soak them in 5% salt water for about 10 minutes to prevent leeches and other harmful organisms from being brought into the cage with the grass.

2. How fast will the farmed eels grow after eating fly maggots? Will there be any problems? Do I need to take any medicine? Please ask the experts. Thank you.

According to the information I have learned, the effect of using fly maggots to raise eels is very good. Compared with feed, the cost is 30% lower, and the growth rate is faster than feed, and the meat quality is better. I learned from a boss who raises loaches that the cost of raising loaches by self-breeding and self-raising with fly maggots is 6 yuan/jin, while the cost of feed is nearly 10 yuan/jin, and the effect is very different.

If you are using wild maggots to lay eggs for breeding, you must disinfect them with potassium permanganate before feeding them to eels. If you are using house-raised red-headed flies and using animal manure fermented by Vitality 99 to feed them,

Then the maggots do not need to be disinfected again.

3. How to control the amount of food to feed the eel?

The amount of fresh feed consumed by eels is generally 1-5% of their body weight, and 0.5-3% calculated by the weight of dry feed. Because our eel concentrated feed contains specific attractants that promote the secretion of digestive juices. The low secretion of digestive juices and low absorption rate of eels are important reasons for their slow growth. Therefore, after using the eel concentrated feed we developed, their food intake will increase significantly and their growth rate will also increase accordingly. However, due to the eel's habit of greed, the maximum limit of our feeding should be controlled within 10% of its body weight (fresh or wet weight), and the initial feeding should be gradually added from less to more. Generally, when the water temperature is above 25℃, we start with 0.5% of wet weight or 0.2% of dry weight for the first feeding, and then increase or decrease it according to the observation of the eating situation. When the water temperature is below 25℃, the initial feeding should be appropriately reduced compared to the previous standard. In actual breeding, since the number of eels in many ponds (boxes) may be different, we adopt the method of multiple feeding. First, half of the total amount is fed, and after a while, the pond is inspected and the pond (box) that has finished eating is replenished. After a while, the pond is inspected again. If there are eels that have finished eating but some are still looking outside, re-feed them to ensure that the eels have enough food.

According to the test, when 3% of dry earthworms or earthworm powder is added to the compound feed, the feeding speed of the eel is more than 1 times faster than that of the one with 2%, while there is almost no difference in the feeding speed of the control groups with 4%, 5%, 6%, 7% and 8%. This shows that adding no less than 3% of dry earthworms to the eel feed has a considerable "temptation" for the eel. Because the water content of living earthworms is about 80%, and the water content of air-dried earthworms is about 8%, 1 kg of dry earthworms is equivalent to 4.6 kg of fresh earthworms. When processing and feeding 100 kg of dry feed, we should add no less than 13.8 kg of fresh earthworms. Although the domesticated eel can also feed on the compound feed without earthworms, its feeding amount and feeding speed are significantly different from those with sufficient earthworms. Therefore, in our usual ingredients, it is best to add no less than 150 grams of fresh earthworms to 1 kg of dry feed. In the initial feeding and domestication process, the amount of earthworms added should be appropriately increased.

1. Selection of eel feed

Rice field eels like to eat active bait, and animal feed is the first choice. Whether feeding eels in the field or raising them in family courtyards or rice fields, you can choose small fish, snails, tadpoles and some animal larvae to feed them. In order to ensure that the eels have enough food, we can breed fish, tadpoles, snails and rice field eels in three dimensions, but pay attention to the number and density. When releasing the fry, be careful not to make it too messy to maintain the purity of the fry.

2. Eel Insect Feed

When feeding eels, we can also help them attract insects. You can plant some melons, beans or vegetables next to the eel pond to attract insects. The eels will catch them themselves or the insects will fall into the water and become their delicacies. At night, place lights around the plants to illuminate them and attract insects. You can also use solar insect killer lamps to kill insects. These moths, mosquitoes, flies, etc. can be eaten by eels.

3. Eel delivery method

From July to October, when the temperature is suitable, the water temperature is between 20 and 26 degrees, which is the most conducive to the growth of eels. When feeding eels, in winter and spring, you only need to feed them once, at night or in the morning. In summer, because this is the peak season for eels to forage, it is also the time when eels grow. At this time, you can feed them more, and it is more appropriate to feed them 2 to 3 times.

4. Subsequent observation of eel feeding

When you start delivering food, you can feed less to see how sensitive the eels are to this type of food. You need to patrol the pond in a timely manner to learn about the eels' activity levels and their eating habits after the food has been delivered. When patrolling the pond in the morning and evening, you need to remove any remaining bait in a timely manner. To facilitate the delivery of eel bait, you can set up a feeding table. A simple feeding table can be made using wooden boxes and wire. Through the feeding table, you can easily bring up any remaining and corroded food.

5. Matters needing attention when feeding eel fry into the pond

When placing eel fry, pay attention to density and temperature. The time to place the fry is about 10 days after the pond is fertilized, and the time to place the fry is in the morning or evening on a sunny day. Observe the eel's diet. Some water earthworms, mosquitoes and maggots can be placed. These eel fry can be placed on the bait table first, so that the eel will have a conditioned reflex to the diet and gradually develop a good habit of collecting food at a fixed point.
