1. How to identify whether a centipede has laid eggs? Does a centipede still have strong reproductive ability after laying eggs once?

The egg-laying season is from late June to early August, that is, from the summer solstice to the beginning of autumn, and the peak egg-laying period is in early and mid-July. Before laying eggs, the centipede's abdomen is almost close to the ground, and it digs a shallow cave by itself. When laying eggs, the centipede's body is bent into an S shape, the back legs are propped up, the tail legs are upturned, and the antennae are stretched forward. Then, the strings of centipede eggs are discharged one by one from the reproductive opening. If there is no external disturbance, the smooth egg-laying process takes about 2 to 3 hours. After laying eggs, the centipede then cleverly turns its body sideways, uses its legs to hold the eggs into a ball, and holds them in its arms to hatch. When laying eggs, if it is disturbed, it will stop laying eggs or eat all the eggs that are hatching. This is the so-called protective reaction of the centipede. The incubation time of the centipede is as long as 43 to 50 days. During this period, the female centipede never leaves the eggs or larvae, carefully guarding them, sometimes swinging and sweeping her lower body and antennae from time to time to drive away small insects that are close to her, and often using her claws to fiddle with or suck the eggs and larvae. It is speculated that the centipede may be secreting some kind of oral gland and basal gland secretions to prevent the eggs from being invaded by bacteria or other dirt. The eggs are oval in shape and vary in size.

Centipedes can of course regenerate after laying eggs, but centipedes must mate every time before they can lay eggs.

After laying eggs, they are held in its abdomen.

The male dies after mating

The female mates once and is pregnant for life

I don’t know, but I’d like to know.

2. How to raise centipedes

1. Spring: After Qingming Festival, the temperature rises to about 17℃, and the hibernating centipedes revive. At this time, you can spray some nutritious water (such as adding milk powder, glucose, etc. to the water) for them to drink. Then feed them small insects and other food with high water content. 2. Summer: Due to the suitable temperature and abundant food, centipedes grow faster. However, summer is also the season when pathogens multiply in large quantities, and the incidence and mortality of centipedes are high. It is mainly caused by mold. The symptoms are that black spots appear on the tarsal limbs and the ventral surface of the body of the centipede, and they continue to infiltrate and expand, resulting in loss of appetite, slow movement, and finally death from weight loss. Therefore, in summer, the amount of watering should be controlled, and more soft, juicy animal and plant feed should be fed; the sick ones should be separated. 3. Autumn: In addition to paying attention to adjusting the humidity in the breeding room, providing drinking water and feeding regularly, special attention should be paid to the management during the breeding period. The main measures are: First, isolate the pregnant females. The centipedes before laying eggs should be raised separately to eliminate interference and improve the hatching rate. According to experience, use a glass bottle for canned food with a plastic lid, and drill ten small holes in the lid for ventilation. Put half a bottle of moist soil in the bottle (the moist soil should be kneaded into a ball by hand and fall apart at the touch). Put the centipedes that are about to give birth into the bottle, one in each bottle. If they have not laid eggs after 4-5 days, you need to change the clean soil and supplement the food. The breeding bottle is placed in a dark, humid and quiet place, and it must be managed, observed and recorded in time. The second is to strengthen the feeding before and after laying eggs. Increase the amount of feeding, and pay attention to adjusting the variety of food to promote the female to eat more, ensure that it successfully completes the egg hatching, and prevent swallowing eggs. After the hatching is completed, the young centipedes should be separated from the mother in time. It is easy to separate the mother and the young when hatching in glass bottles, but in larger containers, the habit of small centipedes to gather and eat sweets should be used. Several clean artificial sponges with several small holes drilled in them should be soaked in a solution containing glucose and milk powder for a while, and then placed in the four corners of the breeding pool (tank) in the evening. The small centipedes will crawl to the sponge, and drill into the small holes of the sponge to rest after eating. The next day, clamp the sponge block to the new breeding device and tap it gently, and the small centipede will fall down. The small centipedes that have just been separated from the mother can be raised in an ordinary new enamel basin for a period of time. Put 2 cm thick moist fine soil at the bottom of the basin, cover it with a tile that absorbs enough water, and cover the basin mouth with a plastic film with many small holes drilled in it. 600 centipedes can be raised in one basin. Be particularly careful when raising small centipedes. The breeding soil should be fine, soft, clean and moist. Feed them with maggots, earthworms, minced fresh meat, and add a small amount of milk powder, glucose, etc. Put the food on the glass sheet, feed it in the evening, and take it out in the morning. 4. Winter: Winter-age centipedes stop eating and hibernating, and the main thing is to keep warm. The centipedes curl up under the tiles. At this time, you can take away the top few layers of tiles, put the centipedes on the bottom layer, and then mix moist fine soil and bran, pour it on the tiles, cover the tiles, and then cover with straw to keep warm. Do not let the temperature drop below 0℃. Usually, you should pay attention to check the temperature and humidity to prevent rats. If you can use tunnels to raise centipedes, you can change hibernation to winter breeding. There will be two reproductions in a year, and one more reproduction in January and February. This not only shortens the growth cycle, but also improves the reproductive capacity.

It should be the red-headed centipede

The box for raising centipedes should not be too big. They must have shelter, otherwise they will be very uneasy. If they feel the environment is suitable, they will seldom move. The space should be as large as possible according to their own conditions. The humidity of the environment must be high. Sphagnum moss is the best bet (the kind of dry moss used for growing flowers). There is no need to heat it in winter. As long as the temperature is not lower than 0 degrees, it can safely overwinter.

It usually hunts at night. Food can be mealworms, crickets, grasshoppers, small fish, cockroaches, minced meat, etc. The food must be smaller than the centipede itself.

Then mix damp fine soil and bran, pour it on the tiles, cover the tiles, and then cover with straw to keep warm. Do not let the temperature drop below 0℃. Pay attention to checking the temperature and humidity to prevent rats. If you can use the tunnel to raise centipedes, you can change hibernation to winter breeding. There will be two reproductions in a year, and one more in January and February, which not only shortens the growth cycle, but also improves the reproductive capacity.

3. Ask friends, in what season do centipedes breed?

Centipedes are oviparous animals and usually mate in sunny weather after rain from March to June. The eggs gradually develop and mature in late spring and early summer every year. They start laying eggs from mid-June. The peak egg-laying period is from June to early to mid-July, and continues until early August.

4. Centipede Reproduction

The centipede's egg-laying season is from late June to early August, that is, from the summer solstice to the beginning of autumn, and the peak egg-laying period is in early and mid-July. The centipede's life span is only 6 years. After sexual maturity, it usually mates in the early morning after the rain in March-May and July-August, and begins to lay eggs after 40 days. The male and female centipedes mate once, and the female centipede can produce fertilized eggs throughout the life. I am learning Zhang Chongzhou's centipede breeding technology, which is very detailed above. I hope it will be useful to you.
