CATDOLL: What should you pay attention to when raising earthworms in pots (What is the easiest way to raise earthworms at home)

1. Can earthworms be placed in potted plants? If so, how should they be placed?

Do not allow earthworms to enter.

1. If there are earthworms in the flower pots, they must be killed.

2. Earthworms are beneficial in the field, but harmful in flower pots. There is little soil in the flower pots, which will cause earthworms to gnaw the roots of flowers. In addition, earthworms will dig holes, and when watering, the water will flow away through the holes, and the flowers will not be able to drink water.

3. If there are earthworms in the flowerpot, you can buy some "DTIC" (pesticide) powder, sprinkle it on the surface of the potting soil, mix it with the soil, and then water it.

4. Some people also believe that earthworm castings are a kind of fertilizer for flowers and are beneficial to them.

2. How to raise earthworms in pots?

How to breed earthworms in pots

Pot culture method: The volume is limited, and it can be raised in flower pots, pots, abandoned pottery and other containers. Because the volume of pots and other containers is small. Generally, it is suitable for breeding some small earthworms that are not easy to escape, such as Eisenia fetida, Diptera minor, Heterolithodon umbellata, etc. However, the larger and easy-to-escape earthworms of the genus Pheretima are often not suitable for breeding with this method. Pot culture method is also limited to small-scale breeding. However, it has its advantages, that is, it is simple to breed, easy to care for, and easy to move, making it easy to control temperature and humidity, convenient for observation and statistics, and very suitable for scientific experiments in breeding.

10-70 Eisenia fetida can be raised. The amount of material in the pot depends on the size of the pot and the number of earthworms raised. Commonly used containers include flower pots. However, the feed placed in the pot should not exceed 3/4 of the depth of the pot. Due to the small size of the flower pot, the temperature and humidity in the pot are easily affected by changes in the external environment and produce large changes. The surface soil or feed in the pot is easy to dry, and the temperature is also easy to change. Therefore, when using flower pots for breeding, it is important to ensure ventilation and try to maintain the appropriate temperature and humidity of the soil or feed in the pot. For example, you can cover it with reed curtains, straw, plastic film, etc., and spray water frequently to maintain sufficient humidity. It should also be noted that when choosing pots, cylinders, cans and other containers, you must not use containers that have been used to hold pesticides, fertilizers or other chemicals. So as not to cause the death of earthworms.

3. How to raise earthworms in flower pots?

In fact, putting earthworms in flower pots to loosen the soil is not very effective. Although earthworms can loosen the soil, there is less soil in flower pots. Unlike plants planted in the ground, the roots stretch in the only pot soil. Earthworms wriggle back and forth in the pot soil, eating only some organic matter. Although their excrement is a good organic fertilizer, the wriggling back and forth will damage some roots.

4. How to raise earthworms in flower pots or in the yard?

Pot culture method: Use flower pots, plastic pots and other waste ceramics for breeding. This method is suitable for small-scale breeding for indoor test feed research, because this method is simple to breed, easy to manage, easy to operate, easy to control breeding conditions, and easy to measure test data. However, due to the small size of the pot, it is difficult to breed many, so it is difficult to apply in production.

When raising earthworms in a pot, fill it to three-quarters of the pot height, and it is appropriate to put about 100 to 200 earthworms in each pot. Because the pot is small, the humidity and temperature in the pot are greatly affected by the environment, such as the feed is easy to dry, and the temperature changes significantly. Therefore, under the premise of ensuring ventilation, the mouth of the pot can be covered with plastic film, and water can be sprayed frequently to maintain the appropriate humidity of the feed in the pot. Or the place where the pot is placed can be moved frequently according to the high and low temperature outside to adjust the temperature in the pot. In addition, the breeding time of pots should not be too long, and 30 to 60 days is appropriate.

5. How to raise earthworms at home?

1. Pot culture method: prepare a flower pot, add feed to it (to three-quarters of the pot height), and then put 100-200 earthworms in it. 2. Box and frame culture method: prepare a box, drill drainage holes and ventilation holes on the bottom and sides, and pile up soil about 16cm high. Put 5,000-10,000 earthworms in each box. 3. Pond culture method: build a breeding pond (2×1×0.2m) and put the decomposed mixed feed in the pond.

1. Four methods of raising earthworms indoors

1. Pot culture method

(1) Prepare containers, such as flower pots, plastic pots, or discarded ceramics.

(2) Add feed to the basin, the amount should reach about three quarters of the basin height.

(3) About 100-200 fish are raised in each basin.

(4) To ensure the appropriate humidity in the pot, you can cover the mouth of the pot with a layer of plastic film (make sure to poke holes to ensure ventilation) and spray water frequently.

2. Box breeding method

(1) The specifications of boxes mainly include 60cm×30cm×20cm, 60cm×40cm×20cm, 60cm×50cm×20cm, 60cm×20cm×30cm, and 60cm×40cm×30cm.

(2) There are about 5,000 to 10,000 fish raised in each box.

(3) Drainage and ventilation holes (about 0.7-1.2 cm in diameter) need to be drilled on the bottom and sides of the box. The total area of the holes should occupy about 20-30% of the bottom or sides of the box.

(4) Pile soil into the box, keeping the height at about 16 cm.

3. Pond culture method

(1) Red bricks are used to build the breeding pond. The specifications of the pond are 2×1×0.2m. The bottom of the pond is smoothed with cement, and no cement is required on the inner and outer walls.

(2) Place decomposed mixed feed with a water content of 60% into the pond.

(3) 1000-2000 earthworms are stocked in each pond.

4. Garbage feeding method

The garbage is processed to remove harmful metals, plastics, glass, stones and other debris, then it is piled up for fermentation, and finally the fermented garbage is put into the pool as feed.

2. Do you need to change the soil frequently when raising earthworms indoors?

Indoor earthworm breeding generally does not require frequent soil changes, but the following matters need to be noted during breeding:

1. Temperature

(1) The activity temperature range of earthworms is 5-30℃, and the suitable activity temperature range is 20-27℃.

(2) In summer, if the temperature is too high, water it in time to cool it down. In winter, if the temperature is too low, cover it with straw in time to keep it warm.

2. Humidity

The humidity should be 40-60%, not too dry or too humid.

3. pH

The pH value should be between 6 and 8, neither too high nor too low, because the surface of the earthworm's body is covered with chemical receptors that are sensitive to acid and alkali.

4. Breathability

Turn the soil in time to ensure that the soil is well-ventilated and has sufficient oxygen.

6. How to keep earthworms staying in the pot obediently?

Just sprinkle some moist soil in the pot where you put the earthworms and add a little rotten leaves.
