It is widely distributed in the north and south seas of China, Dalian and Changxing Island in Liaoning, Beidaihe in Hebei, Qingdao and Yantai in Shandong, Lianyungang in Jiangsu, Nanji and Xiangshan in Zhejiang, Pingtan and Xiamen in Fujian, Haimen and Shanwei in Guangdong, and Hong Kong, and is also found in North Korea.

The clams (Philadelphus philippinosus) are strictly dioecious, with gonads in diffuse tissues closely connected to the digestive system. The reproductive period varies according to the geographical area, and spawning is usually carried out at water temperatures of 20-25°C. Sexual activity is dormant from late autumn to early winter. Gamete formation in the wild takes 2-5 months, followed by spawning.

The Philippine clam (Philippine clams) grows rapidly, has a short breeding cycle, is highly adaptable (wide temperature, wide salt, and wide distribution), and can survive long out of water. It is an excellent shellfish suitable for high-density artificial breeding and is one of the four major farmed shellfish in China.
