How to farm eels

1. Building eel ponds

The yellow eel is a snake-like fish that mainly lives in muddy waters. When breeding, eel ponds are built in places with abundant water resources and year-round flowing water. And because yellow eels like to burrow into the soil, cement must be used to build eel ponds to prevent them from digging holes and escaping. The size of the pond is determined according to the scale of the breeding.

2. Stocking eel fry

For eel fry, choose fry of the same size as the others that have just hatched for less than a week. When stocking, the water temperature should be controlled between 25-28 degrees. During the later maintenance, the water temperature should not be lower than 21 degrees. They can be mixed with loaches appropriately, which can not only increase the dissolved oxygen content in the water, but also prevent the eels from entanglement with each other.

3. Feeding management

Yellow eel is a carnivorous fish. Its food mainly consists of aquatic insects, frogs, small fish, etc. When artificially fed, it can be fed with earthworms, snails, shellfish, etc., combined with plant-based food. It should be fed at 9 am, 2 pm, and 6 pm every day.

4. Change water regularly

Although eels like to live in muddy waters, they have certain requirements for water quality. Turbid and polluted water will cause the eels to die. The water needs to be changed every 7 days, and the amount of water changed should be controlled at 1/4 of the pond. In addition, when changing the water, the pond mud at the bottom of the pond should be stirred to discharge harmful gases.
