CATDOLL: What does southern loofah look like?

Sponge gourd is a kind of vegetable and fruit that often appears in summer. Many people like to eat it, especially children and the elderly with bad teeth. They prefer the soft and smooth taste of sponge gourd! In rural areas, basically every household will sow seeds and plant a few sponge gourds before the arrival of summer, and then they can eat a lot of fresh and delicious sponge gourds in August and September!

The loofahs we usually eat are spindle-shaped strips, slightly curved, and the surface skin is a little hard. If you look closely, you can find some lines on it, but it still looks very smooth overall! The loofah we are going to talk about today is quite special. It is the angular loofah unique to Guangdong. The Guangdong loofah people refer to is this angular loofah!

This kind of angular loofah is mainly distributed in the southern region. It is rarely seen in the northern region, so people don’t even think about eating it this way! The shape of this angular loofah is a little different from the ordinary loofah. The angular loofah is roughly round and stick-shaped. It is thicker at the bottom and thinner at the top. The most prominent feature of the surface is the sharp edges, which are distributed vertically!

Angular loofah also grows in summer. We all know that we should eat loofah early. If we pick it when it is big, it will not taste good. Generally, tender loofah tastes fresher and more refreshing! Angular loofah also needs to be peeled before cooking. After peeling, the white, tender and smooth flesh can be used to make various delicacies. It is delicious when stir-fried, cold, stewed or made into soup!

The angular loofah is delicious and delicate when stir-fried with vegetables. It can also be stir-fried with meat dishes such as eggs, pork or clams. It can also be paired with shredded pork or eggs when making soup. The seeds of this angular loofah can be taken out when it is old. The remaining fiber can be used as a cleaning tool such as a rag, and it can also be used as medicine! What do you think of this angular loofah?

Water melon and loofah are called the same thing in the north and south, and they are the same vegetable.

Nutritional value of loofah:

1. Luffa is mild in nature and contains interferon inducers, which can stimulate the body to produce interferon, and has anti-viral, anti-cancer, diuretic, and heat-removing effects. Therefore, it can be used to treat edema.

2. Loofah is sweet and cool in nature. It enters the liver and stomach meridians. It has the effects of eliminating heat and resolving phlegm, cooling blood and detoxifying, relieving heat and relieving restlessness, promoting blood circulation and dispelling wind. It can be used to treat fever, thirst, phlegm, asthma, cough, intestinal wind, hemorrhoids, metrorrhagia, leucorrhea, hematuria, sores, carbuncle, and women's milk retention.

3. The fruit of loofah is sweet, cold, non-toxic, and enters the liver and stomach meridians. It can treat fever, thirst, phlegm, asthma, cough, intestinal wind, hemorrhoids, metrorrhagia, bloody stranguria, sores, milk stagnation, carbuncles and other diseases.

Additional information:

The efficacy of loofah:

2. Brain health and beauty: Due to the high content of vitamin B in loofah, it is beneficial to the brain development of children and the brain health of middle-aged and elderly people; the juice of the loofah vine has the special function of maintaining skin elasticity and can beautify and remove wrinkles.

3. Anti-viral and anti-allergic: Luffa extract has a significant preventive effect on Japanese encephalitis virus. An anti-allergic substance, broomrape acid, is also extracted from the luffa tissue culture medium, which has a strong anti-allergic effect.

They are all the same!

"Have you seen this kind of loofah? The plant and the flower look no different from ordinary loofahs, but the fruit is special. The young melons that have just grown are different from ordinary loofahs. They are short and thick in shape, whitish in color, and have fresh and tender skin. When they grow bigger, they look like white and tender bamboo shoots.

This kind of loofah is a seed sent by my friend from the south. He said it is a new variety of loofah introduced from abroad in recent years. Since it has not been planted in our area and is a rare variety, I dare not plant it in large quantities. This year I tried to plant more than 100 trees. "

At Zhang Junyou's family farm in Zhanglou Village, Youhe Town, Bozhou City, vegetable grower Zhang Junyou introduced to the author the new variety of loofah he tried to grow this year.

For vegetable growers, new vegetable varieties are a double-edged sword. The advantage is that there are no competitors, so they can win by surprise and sell at a good price. The disadvantage is the lack of market recognition. Since consumers lack understanding of new vegetable varieties, they may invest a lot of energy in them, and when they are finally recognized by the market, the number of copycat growers will explode instantly. This is a typical case of "the previous generation plants the trees and the next generation enjoys the shade."

However, in Zhang Junyou's opinion, this kind of loofah is selling well in southern provinces such as Hunan, Guangdong, and Guangxi. Why is it not recognized in our mainland? As long as it can be successfully planted, there is no agricultural product that cannot be sold.

Since you are engaged in planting, you must have an innovative spirit. It is very difficult to get ahead of others if you always follow others.

The most commendable thing about Zhang Junyou is his courage to innovate. Many years ago, he introduced pickled peppers from Jiangxi to the local area. Due to differences in climate and soil, he actually went to a large pepper breeding company in Hunan in person and asked technical experts to help him overcome technical difficulties. After more than three years of hard work, he finally succeeded in the trial planting.

Although the planting problem has been solved, a new problem has arisen, that is, the sales of peppers. Since local people do not have the habit of eating such highly spicy pickled peppers, the main consumer markets are concentrated in southern provinces such as Hunan, Hubei, Jiangxi, Guangxi, Guangdong and Sichuan. If the planting area is too small, buyers are unwilling to come to purchase, and the transportation costs are relatively high.

At that time, he approached many colleagues in the planting industry and persuaded them to grow pickled peppers. However, no one was sure about this new type of pepper and no one dared to develop its cultivation. In desperation, he planted nearly 200 acres of peppers by himself. During the pepper harvest season, since the purchase quantity had been reached, foreign merchants directly took them away, and he made more than 1 million yuan that year.

Faced with facts, his friends began to believe it. After several years of development, the area of pickled pepper cultivation in the surrounding area has reached thousands of acres. He also gave up pickled pepper cultivation and focused on the pickled pepper purchasing and processing business.

His pioneering spirit has made him successful and also cultivated his unconventional character, just like the new agricultural project of "aquaponics" he carried out last year and the trial planting of a new variety of loofah this year, both of which are for future development planning.

On the road of new agricultural development, whoever can guide the planting direction will be able to gain the upper hand. Once successful, while leading the growers to become rich, they will also be the biggest beneficiary.

After all, the planting of conventional vegetable crops is too homogeneous and the market conditions are extremely fragile. These are the reasons why agriculture is not profitable.

The new variety of loofah that Zhang Junyou is trying to grow is not only tender and fresh, but also tastes better and has a higher yield than ordinary loofah. With proper management, the yield per mu can reach 8,000-10,000 catties, and the picking period can be as long as three months.

However, he was not in a hurry to sell the loofahs he harvested this year. Instead, he let everyone pick them for free, especially his friends in the city. He even took the initiative to deliver them to their homes. His purpose was to cultivate everyone's knowledge and recognition of this loofah.

I like Zhang Junyou's innovative agricultural planting ideas. At the same time, I would like to ask all-knowing friends, do you know this kind of loofah? What is the sales potential of this loofah? Welcome everyone to leave a message to discuss and exchange.
