CATDOLL: How to prevent turtles from escaping

1. How to prevent turtles from escaping

Generally, it is sufficient to build a circle of anti-escape boards on the shore. If anti-escape boards are built on the sides of the pool bottom, the cost will be too high.

2. How to prevent turtles from escaping when raising them in farmland

The best way is to build a wall 2 feet above the water surface and slightly inward. The turtle will try to climb up, but it will fall down if it fails. The corner of the wall is also inward. This method is the safest. If the area is likely to be flooded, the embankment must be raised or a high wall must be built. This is also a proactive response and a guarantee of high efficiency.

3. Turtle breeding methods, new turtle breeding technologies and precautions

1. Construction of turtle pond

(1) When building a pond, you should choose a quiet environment, without wind, facing the sun, and with convenient drainage and irrigation. If it is a self-breeding, self-rearing, and self-feeding turtle farm, you must build five types of breeding ponds, namely new turtle ponds, juvenile turtle ponds, young turtle ponds, three-year-old turtle ponds, and adult turtle ponds.

(2) The soil of the pond should preferably be clay or loam. If there is no sandy soil at the bottom of the pond, some sandy soil should be mixed in. A sun-drying platform and a feeding platform should be built beside the pond to provide a place for the turtles to bask in the sun and eat food. A 1-meter-high escape-proof wall should be built around the pond with asbestos tiles and bricks.

2. Selection and stocking of soft-shelled turtle fry

Selection of seedlings: Order them from regular breeding farms or buy them at local aquatic markets. You can also order them online, but be careful not to buy them from small vendors, because the size of the turtle seedlings in the hands of vendors is inconsistent and the source channels are unclear. The purchased turtles are prone to illness and death.

Stocking: No matter where you buy the turtle fry from, you cannot put them into the breeding pond immediately. You must first temporarily culture them in cages for about 15 days to observe their condition. You can first put some of the turtles in cages in the breeding pond for about 15 days. If the turtles do not show any discomfort or abnormalities, they can be released on a large scale. The stocking density depends on the size of the breeding pond and other factors. 100kg-150kg of 2-3 year old young turtles can be released per acre.

3. Temperature control

The most suitable temperature for the growth of soft-shelled turtles is between 30℃ and 32℃, and the amount of food consumed by soft-shelled turtles is proportional to the temperature. However, the maximum temperature should not exceed 32℃, and the temperature should be kept as stable as possible.

4. Feed selection

(1) Animal feed: The feed for turtles can be the offal of livestock and poultry discarded by restaurants, the leftover scraps from cooking, snails, small fish, shrimps, loaches caught in paddy fields or ditches, earthworms, insects in the fields, etc. These can all be used as feed for turtles.

(2) Plant-based feed: A small amount of plant-based bait, such as corn flour, bean dregs, fruits and bran, can be added to the turtle feed. After processing and mixing, it can be fed to the turtle.

5. Feeding

When using fresh feed, it must be disinfected and cleaned, and it must be prepared and eaten immediately to avoid feed corruption and deterioration. When feeding, it must be fed 2cm-3cm away from the water surface. This is because soft-shelled turtles are timid, so try to minimize interference with them when feeding. The feed must be eaten within one and a half hours. In hot seasons, feed should be fed before sunrise and at sunset.

6. Water quality management

Soft-shelled turtles have strict requirements on water quality, because most of them live in water, and the quality of water is very important to their growth. Therefore, the water should be changed every 8-10 days. Each time the water is changed, the water level in the breeding pond should be drained by 20cm-25cm and then filled with water. The water transparency in the breeding pond should be controlled at 30cm-35cm.

The water in the adult turtle pond needs to be changed every 4 days. A small amount of green plants such as water lily and water hyacinth can be planted in the water to improve the water quality and allow the turtle to grow better.

7. Notes

(1) Patrols should be conducted every morning and evening to check the escape-proof wall and the condition of predators, and to understand the turtles’ diet and water quality.

(2) The feeding pond should be cleaned with a mild disinfectant or a sterilized brush before each feeding and should be disinfected every three days.

4. How to prevent turtles from escaping from ordinary ponds

For soft-shell turtles, the pond can be a little shallower, and the edges of the pond should be built with cement to prevent the soft-shell turtles from crawling out.

5. What food should be used to feed soft-shelled turtles?

Soft-shelled turtles can be fed by eating shrimp, pork, earthworms, lean meat, fish and shrimp, loach, fish, bread, beef, pork liver, rice, fish fry, wheat, meat slices, carrots, melons and fruits, carp, etc.

Soft-shelled turtles are aquatic omnivores that can eat many things, such as tadpoles, shrimps, small fish, aquatic insects, lean meat, loach, fish, bread, beef, pork liver, rice, fish fry, wheat, meat slices, carrots, fruits, carp, etc. To raise soft-shelled turtles, you must first select healthy seedlings, feed them regularly and quantitatively, keep the water clean, change the water regularly, and take measures to prevent them from escaping.

Soft-shell turtles are cold-blooded animals that breathe with lungs, so there should be enough land beaches around or in the center of the turtle pond for them to carry out land activities. The breeding environment must be kept quiet. If the turtle is often frightened, it will be very detrimental to its growth and reproduction.

Things to note when raising turtles indoors

1. Choose the right variety

There are many varieties of soft-shelled turtles at present, but generally speaking, individual soft-shelled turtles weigh 500-1000 grams, are relatively thin, and are mainly yellow-green in color. There are black and yellow patterns on the back, and the bottom of the abdomen is light yellow-white without any spots.

2. Ensure good water quality

The quality of water directly affects the breeding results of soft-shelled turtles. If the pond water is too rich or even smells bad, it will not only be detrimental to the growth of soft-shelled turtles, but also affect the taste of their meat. The residue on the feeding table must be cleaned regularly.

3. Do a good job in disease prevention

In ponds with convenient drainage and good escape prevention facilities, 2-3 turtle fry of basically the same size (50-100 grams) are stocked per square meter. Moyouque usually sprinkles the entire pond with 30-50 grams of quicklime per cubic meter of water every 15 days or so. Unless there are very special circumstances, it is forbidden to step on or catch turtles in the pond. At the same time, use bamboo rafts to build several drying platforms for the turtles to bask in the sun.

6. What to do if the turtle likes to escape

Haha, don't grab it by the head! Grab it from the tail side and be careful to stay away from its head! ~~ The turtle bites very hard, so use a small shovel or a stick to push it into the basin! ~~
