CATDOLL: At what age do goldfish begin to reproduce?

1. At what age do goldfish begin to reproduce?

Goldfish start to shed eggs at 4-5 months old, but generally no fish are produced. It is almost the same at 1 year old. The breeding method must be correct.

The experience I have summarized over the years is relatively easy to understand. To raise goldfish, we must first start with the selection of goldfish. Goldfish are divided into four categories: crucian carp, wen, dragon, and egg. Try not to mix them together to avoid breeding fish with poor ornamental value. Goldfish are also cold-water fish. The so-called cold-water fish does not mean that they can only be raised in cold water, but that they have a wider range of adaptability to water temperatures. They can survive in any water temperature of 0-38 degrees Celsius, and their adaptability is not as small as that of tropical fish. Goldfish like hard water quality, and the water trapping time does not need to be too long, about three days is enough. But the water quality of goldfish must be kept clear. It is enough to change about 5/1 of the water every day. If it is not particularly turbid, you do not need to change it all. When changing the water, pay attention to the temperature difference between the new water and the old water of more than two degrees Celsius to prevent the fish from getting sick. The density of goldfish should not be too high (a pair of 20-cm diameter round fish tanks is appropriate, and so on). Do not feed too much. Once every two days is appropriate. Feed until the fish are about 80% full. Feed feed or quick-frozen fish food. Although fish like to eat live food, it contains a lot of parasites and fish are prone to diseases. Do not add salt when raising goldfish (add salt instead of table salt. Table salt contains iodine, which is equivalent to a chronic poison for fish). A ratio of one percent is enough. Try not to put goldfish on the windowsill. Goldfish are bright fish. A little sunlight is enough. Try not to let the water temperature be too high. The higher the water temperature, the greater the oxygen consumption of the fish. The above are the general properties of goldfish. If you choose to raise a certain type of goldfish, I will give a detailed introduction.

2. In which month do goldfish lay eggs?

The natural situation is that the water temperature is 18 to 25 degrees Celsius at the end of March 2-3 times a year

3. When does goldfish mate and lay eggs?

In spring, when the water temperature, light and other environmental conditions are suitable, two or three male goldfish will chase a female fish, which means that the parents have begun to estrus and lay eggs.

1. The season and time of goldfish spawning

Goldfish usually lay eggs in spring when the water temperature is between 15 and 25 degrees Celsius. The time of goldfish spawning varies in different regions. Under natural conditions, the broodstock in the same pond will not mate and lay eggs at the same time, but some will mate and some will mate later. Goldfish spawn in multiple times, starting roughly in the early morning and ending around nine in the morning. The amount of eggs a goldfish lays depends on the size of the fish, the nutritional status and the development of the female fish. The egg-carrying rate can account for about 20% of its own body weight.

2. Natural spawning

During the breeding season of goldfish, when the climate is mild and the water temperature is continuously above 12℃, mature parents will lay eggs. The female's food intake increases greatly 3-5 days before delivery, and decreases slightly one or two days before delivery. The male becomes very active, chasing after the female until the moment of spawning. The female shuttles back and forth in the fish nest, cleaning the nest with her kiss, and the male follows closely behind, rubbing the female's abdomen with the fingers on its head, gill cover and pectoral fins, and swimming violently and rhythmically in the fish nest, creating a force that presses the ovaries backwards in the abdomen. The eggs squeezed out of the ovaries by the powerful swing of the tail spread out in the water and fully come into contact with the sperm discharged into the water by the male at the same time, completing fertilization.

As the fertilized eggs sink, they will adhere to the fish nest or the wall or bottom of the pool. The fish nest with the fertilized eggs should be placed in the hatching pond for incubation within 1-2 hours after spawning.

3. Artificial insemination

Some fish are limited by objective conditions (such as interspecific hybridization, distant hybridization, etc.); and some species (such as butterfly tail, high head, pearl, etc.) are prone to damage to the tail fins and scales of the parent fish during mating and chasing. In this case, it is advisable to use artificial insemination when the female fish is in estrus to increase the fertilization rate and reduce the damage to the fish. There are two methods of artificial insemination:

1. Dry egg collection

Take the female fish that has reached the climax of estrus out of the water, wipe the moisture from the abdomen with absorbent paper, gently squeeze the abdomen of the female fish, and squeeze the eggs into a clean glass dish. At the same time, wipe the moisture from the abdomen of the mature male fish, and gently squeeze the abdomen to make white semen flow out. Collect the semen with a straw, put it into a glass dish filled with physiological saline, dilute it, pour it into the glass dish containing the eggs and stir it, so that the sperm can fully contact the egg cells. Increase the chance of sperm and egg combination and complete fertilization. Then evenly spread the fertilized eggs on the prepared fish nest, let it stand for a few minutes, and when the fish eggs are firmly attached to the fish nest, gently ripple the fish nest in the water for a few times, take it out and put it into the hatching pool (or hatching tank), and then hatch it.

2. Wet egg collection

Prepare a suitable fish nest and put it in the water (you can use window screen), place the cloaca of the spawning female and male fish opposite each other, and squeeze the abdomen of the male and female fish at the same time, so that the eggs will flow out in lines, and the semen of the male fish will also flow out in translucent milky white lines, so that the "egg flow" directly touches the semen and slowly falls down and sticks to the fish nest. At the same time, when the operator relaxes the fish body rhythmically, the struggling action of the fish body is used to make the eggs and sperm have more sufficient contact and can disperse, avoiding clumping and piling on the fish nest. After the sperm and egg cells complete fertilization in the water, they are evenly scattered on the fish nest to complete artificial insemination.

4. Care of broodstock during egg stage

Strengthening the care of the broodstock during the spawning period is very important for the postpartum recovery of the goldfish's physical strength and maintaining its health. It is necessary to observe and check frequently and pay attention to whether the broodstock have any abnormal conditions, such as: whether the female fish has delayed labor; whether there are too many or too strong male fish that chase the female fish to fatigue; whether the male and female fish have abrasions, etc. If any problems are found, they must be dealt with in a timely manner.

Goldfish do not need to be fed when they are in estrus; after spawning, when the appetite has recovered slightly, you can gradually increase the feeding to restore the health of the fish. After spawning, the parent fish should be separated into male and female and put in a pond with good old water. Especially after giving birth, female fish should not be put in a pool where male and female fish are mixed. If the fish is found to be injured, the injured surface should be treated in time or infection should be prevented.

4. In what season do goldfish usually lay eggs?

Generally speaking, if the water temperature and other conditions of goldfish are suitable, domestic goldfish will spawn in April-May every year, but if they are professionally bred, they will spawn 2-3 times a year!
