CATDOLL: I have a freshwater silver pomfret. Is it easy to raise? Does it grow fast? How big can it grow? The fish really looks like a piranha. The boss fooled me into thinking it was a piranha.

1. I have a freshwater silver pomfret. Is it easy to raise? Does it grow fast? How big can it grow? The fish really looks like a piranha. The boss fooled me into thinking it was a piranha.

I guess I was cheated. First of all, look at the price you bought. The 5CM one is 40 yuan for the water tiger and 10 yuan for the white pomfret.

Silver pomfret and piranha (piranha) are from the same family but are completely different concepts (in terms of ferocity). The body color of these two fishes changes according to the living environment. They are white in a white environment and dark red in a black environment. The way to distinguish them is that the lower jaw wraps the upper jaw and is a piranha with a fang-like shape, while the upper and lower jaws are even, which is a silver pomfret, or the silver pomfret eats granular feed when fed. If it is a silver pomfret, there is no need to raise it. It is the silver pomfret that you usually buy in the market. If you must raise it, it is fine. It is very alive and very hardy. It can basically grow to 15CM long! You must accept the answer after asking the question! Friends should be kind! You can not give points but you must accept it!

Easy to keep, can grow up to about 60 cm, and is completely black when grown up. ・The belly is not red anymore, the boss is right, we have them everywhere, they eat both vegetarian and meat, and usually feed dead ducks in the fish pond. The bite force is stronger than that of a real piranha, but not as sharp as a piranha's teeth.

It's quite big. I don't have a big impression. But if that fish eats meat, it will also eat people after living in groups. Piranhas are colorful, not white.

2. What biological characteristics should be paid attention to when breeding freshwater silver pomfret in saline-alkali ponds?

Freshwater silver pomfret, scientifically known as short-capped giant characin, belongs to the order Characinidae (suborder Cypriniformes), family Characinidae, genus Characin. This fish has the characteristics of fast growth, large size, strong disease resistance, easy fishing, thick meat, few bones and delicious taste. It is currently a pond-farmed variety, especially the silver pomfret farmed in saline-alkali water, which has better taste and quality than those farmed in freshwater.

(1) Salinity: Freshwater silver pomfret can grow normally in saline-alkali water with a salinity of 10, but water quality transition must be carried out before stocking. Freshwater silver pomfret can improve its cold resistance in saline-alkali water with higher salinity.

(2) Temperature The suitable temperature range for the growth of freshwater silver pomfret is 21-32℃, and the optimum temperature is 28-30℃. When the water temperature drops to 12℃, most fish lose balance; when the critical water temperature is above 16℃, they start to feed.

(3) Carbonate alkalinity and pH: Freshwater silver pomfret prefers slightly acidic water, but through domestication, it has strong adaptability to carbonate alkalinity and pH. It can grow normally in water with a carbonate alkalinity of 4 mmol/L and a pH of 8.5, but is not suitable for breeding in saline-alkali water with a higher carbonate alkalinity.

(4) Dissolved oxygen has a strong adaptability to low oxygen, and the suitable dissolved oxygen range for growth is 4-6 mg/L. When it is lower than 3 mg/L, the appetite is affected.

(5) Diet: Freshwater silver pomfret has a varied diet. The larvae feed mainly on plankton, while the juveniles feed mainly on zooplankton. They are widely adaptable to artificial feed.

3. The difference between freshwater silver pomfret and piranha

The piranha and the silver pomfret are similar in size, but the main difference is that the silver pomfret has two rows of flat and wide teeth in the upper and lower jaws, with only 12-14 teeth in the first row and 2 teeth in the second row. When the mouth is closed, the upper and lower teeth are in parallel contact. The piranha has only one row of sharp, triangular teeth in the upper and lower jaws, with 28-31 teeth in the lower jaw. When the upper and lower jaws are closed, they are in a serrated mosaic.

Freshwater silver pomfret, scientific name short-capped giant characin, characin suborder, characin family, serrata subfamily, giant characin genus. Native to the Amazon River in South America, it is a tropical and subtropical fish. Freshwater silver pomfret (hereinafter referred to as freshwater pomfret) has the characteristics of omnivorous diet, fast growth, large size, few diseases, easy to catch, thick meat, few spines, delicious taste, rich nutrition, etc. It is a valuable fish in expanding pond farming objects and increasing unit area production. It can also be used as an ornamental fish in the juvenile stage. Freshwater pomfret was introduced to Taiwan Province of China in 1982, and then artificial breeding was successful, and breeding began to be promoted in freshwater fish ponds. In 1985, it was introduced from Taiwan Province to Guangdong Province via Hong Kong for trial breeding, and artificial breeding was successful in 1987. It was gradually promoted throughout the country and became one of the famous special varieties with the highest annual production.

Piranha is a fish found in the Amazon River in South America. It belongs to the order Characidae, family Characidae, and genus Serrata. It is a type of Piranha. There are nearly 56 species of Piranha, belonging to the subfamily Serrata in the family Characidae. According to their feeding habits, they can be divided into two types: herbivorous and carnivorous. The carnivorous piranha is officially called Nattereri, or Nattereri's sawtooth carp. The fish is 30 cm long (excluding the tail fin). It is mainly found in rivers from the east of the Andes Mountains to the Brazilian plains. In addition to the Amazon River, the Cuiaba River and the Orinoco River are also its main production areas. It is now in the Amazon River Basin in South America, distributed in Argentina and Brazil.

Both the short-capped giant pacu (freshwater white pomfret) and the piranha live in tropical freshwater and have high requirements for water temperature. Generally, they start fasting when the water temperature is around 10℃, and start dying when the water temperature is 7℃. They were originally carnivorous fish. After being domesticated by humans, the short-capped giant pacu changed its eating habits and can also be raised with complete feed. The difference between the two is not very obvious. They look very similar and have teeth, but the piranha is gray-green all over, with a red abdomen and bright red anal fins. In addition, its mouth is larger than that of the short-capped giant pacu and its teeth are sharper.

4. Does any netizen know what kind of fish this is?

This fish that looks like a piranha is actually a freshwater red pomfret.

The meat is quite delicious.

It's just more prickly.

This is a freshwater white pomfret.

The scientific name of freshwater silver pomfret is short-capped giant fat lichen, which is a close relative of the African piranha. It is native to the Amazon River Basin in South America and is a tropical fish.

Freshwater silver pomfret has the advantages of omnivorous diet, fast growth, high nutritional value and easy breeding, so it is widely cultivated as a delicacy on people's tables. Freshwater silver pomfret was introduced to Taiwan Province of China in 1982 and introduced to the mainland from Taiwan in 1985. It has now been promoted and raised in southern my country.
