CATDOLL: Can horned frogs eat dried mealworms?

1. Can horned frogs eat dried mealworms?

It is not recommended to feed horned frogs mealworms, as mealworms have low nutritional value and are difficult to digest. The main food for horned frogs can be fish and frog food, and occasionally shrimp and loach. Mealworms, barley worms, pork, beef, seafood, goldfish, etc. are not suitable for feeding horned frogs.

Horned frogs cannot eat mealworms

Foods such as mealworms and barley worms do not provide much nutrition for horned frogs and are not easy to digest, so it is not recommended to feed them to horned frogs.

When raising horned frogs, you can usually feed them fish and frog food, and occasionally feed them some river shrimp and loaches. When feeding loaches, be sure to cut them up, and don't feed them alive. When feeding shrimps, be sure to cut off the head, tail, and claws, otherwise the frog's stomach and intestines will be easily injured.

In addition to mealworms and barley worms, horned frogs generally cannot eat pork, beef, seafood, goldfish, and wild fish. Wild fish are prone to carrying parasites, which can be transmitted to horned frogs. At the same time, horned frogs cannot eat cooked food.

2. Why don’t forest frogs eat?

There are many reasons why wood frogs don't eat, such as entering hibernation or being sick. Let's take a look at the relevant knowledge.

When the temperature drops below 10 degrees Celsius, the forest frog begins to hibernate, stops eating and reduces activity.

In the southern region, the method of raising frogs is to cover the ground with weeds or straw one to two feet thick, and let the frogs overwinter directly under the weeds or straw. Food: mosquitoes, flies and other insects.

This almost does not require much artificial feeding, and maggots or mealworms can also be artificially bred for feeding. As long as the temperature is suitable, the little frogs will start to catch insects. They are fed with small mealworms or maggots every day, and the insects are directly sprinkled on the ground around the frog farm when feeding.

In practice, it is generally practiced to breed mealworms or fly maggots to feed young and adult frogs. Mealworms can be bred with wheat bran (the breeding method is extremely simple, see technical information for details). Maggots can be raised by mixing 1 part of pig, cow or sheep blood (any one) with 40-50 parts of water and adding a small amount of wheat bran or cornmeal and placing them in outdoor tanks, basins, cement pools, or earth pools. When the temperature is low in early spring, you can also cover the net shed with plastic cloth. That's about it.

The forest frog does not eat. This may be because the temperature has been relatively low recently, so the forest frog has gradually entered a state of hibernation, so it does not eat.

3. Rana eats nematodes

The wood frog hibernates in winter and does not eat. It will not start eating until the temperature rises above 12 degrees in spring. However, it is not recommended to store wood frogs in ordinary households, as it is difficult for them to survive. If you want to release them, you can put them in a small river near a mountain that is not frozen.

In winter, wood frogs hibernate and do not eat anything. Are you a vegetarian? Why don't you want to eat in winter? Wood frogs are best eaten in winter.

The Chinese subspecies of the European forest frog. The Chinese name is Northeast Forest Frog, and the English name is Rana chensinensis, also known as Snow Clam and Hashemite (Hashi Frog). It is widely distributed in northern China. It is also distributed in Siberia and North Korea. Individuals vary greatly in different regions. The head, body and limbs are slender, agile, and have strong jumping ability. There are triangular dark brown spots on the eardrum. The back of the body is mostly khaki, and there are usually dark spots scattered on the warts. The dorsal folds bend outward on the eardrum. It is mainly terrestrial, often living in a moist and cool environment without strong light. It feeds on a variety of insects. From late September to early October, it migrates from the hillside forest area to the vicinity of the river ditch, and gradually enters the bottom of the water to hibernate in groups. A few hibernate in the mud or under the roots of trees, and recover around Qingming Festival the following year. The breeding season is from mid-April to early May. Tadpoles hatch in 8 to 20 days, and they completely turn into frogs in 1 month, with a body length of about 19 mm. Chinese forest frog is rich in 4 hormones, 9 vitamins, 13 trace elements and 18 amino acids, and has high value in medicine, nourishment and beauty.

Hello, it should be that there are worms in the stomach, this is also a normal phenomenon. The main thing to eat is the frog oil in the frog's stomach. The worms are in other parts of its stomach, which does not affect its consumption. You can put the dried frog in the refrigerator for a day so that the parasites will be frozen to death. Then take it out, squeeze out the oil, soak it, cook it and eat it. If you buy dried frogs in the future, it is recommended that you put them in the refrigerator after you buy them. If there is no space in the refrigerator, you can eat the frog with its mouth open first.
