American Wirehair Cat Food Taboos:

1. Milk. In fact, most American Wirehaired cats are lactose intolerant. Their digestive systems cannot process dairy products, so if they are fed milk, they will have diarrhea due to indigestion.

2. Grapes and raisins. These foods can cause kidney failure in American Wirehaired Cats, so it is best not to feed them grapes and raisins.

3. Coffee. Large amounts of coffee can be fatal to American Wirehaired cats, and there is no antidote.

4. Raw eggs, raw meat and bones. Just like humans, cats may be infected with salmonella or E. coli if they eat raw eggs or raw meat. The symptoms vary, and may include vomiting, diarrhea and lethargy.

5. Chocolate. Chocolate is toxic to cats. It contains a substance called methylxanthine, which can cause vomiting and diarrhea, fever, muscle tremors, abnormal heart rhythm, abdominal discomfort, thirst and epilepsy in cats.

6. Alcohol. Alcoholic beverages and foods are toxic to cats. Ingestion of these foods may cause them to experience vomiting, diarrhea, loss of direction, difficulty breathing, coma, and even death.
