How do grass carp reproduce?

Like carp, grass carp also goes into heat and reproduces during the unstable and warm spring season (this is basically the case for terrestrial aquatic animals). However, grass carp must be in turbulent waters that are rich in oxygen and pollution-free to induce the development of gonads in male and female fish.

The gonads of grass carp (silver carp) will never develop in ordinary fish ponds and cages, and this also applies to silver carp, bighead carp (bighead carp), and black carp (black carp).

At present, the nursery and breeding stations adopt the method of creating artificial oxygen-rich flowing water bodies to raise both male and female grass carp broodstock to promote the development of gonads (ovaries and seminal vesicles). When the temperature rises in spring, the gonads of both male and female fish are expected to be basically mature (if you press the bulging abdomen of the female fish with your hand, you can see eggs being discharged from the cloaca). Then, oxytocin is injected into the brain of the female fish one week to half a month in advance to promote the full maturation of the female eggs and ovulation (the male fish will be affected by the sexual information of the female fish and estrus synchronously).

When male and female broodstock are found to be in estrus and chasing each other in flowing water, a large amount of high-temperature sterilized palm fibers or hay are immediately thrown into the water. Through the ovulation and ejaculation of the male and female fish, a large number of fertilized eggs will adhere to the palm fibers or hay.

Take the broodstock that have drained all their eggs and semen out of the spawning pond...Immediately drain the pond water that has become fishy and contaminated by sperm and egg liquid, disinfect the fertilized eggs with malachite green or potassium permanganate solution, and immediately replace it with clean hatching water at the same temperature...Maintain the optimal hatching temperature at 20 or 22 degrees, increase artificial lighting, and oxygenate the water, and the fry will hatch in just 3-4 days.
