CATDOLL: Is a soft-shell turtle the same as a tortoise? Are they the same?

1. Is a soft-shell turtle the same as a tortoise? Are they the same?

Soft-shelled turtles and tortoises are different, they just look similar.

There is indeed a difference between turtles and soft-shelled turtles (also known as tortoises) in biology.

"Wangba" is a common name, not a formal biological term. Its original meaning is "a man who indulges his wife in an affair", and it was written as "Wangba" at the time. Later, people used "duck" to refer to or metaphorically represent "Wangba", because the ducks in the past Chinese breeds had green heads.

Later it also referred to "turtle", see (A Dream of Red Mansions, Xue Pan: "Marrying a man is a turtle" and "My husband is a bastard") Now it is basically used as an alias for "turtle" in the whole country.

The turtle has a special shell on its body. The head, tail and limbs can be extended and retracted from the shell. The whole body is box-shaped and can be divided into three parts: head and neck, trunk, limbs and tail. The back of the head is slightly triangular, black or brown-black, the mouth is located at the front of the head, the front of the top of the head is smooth, and the back is fine-grained and scaly. The upper and lower jaws are toothless, and the jaw edges are covered with a tough fish-like sheath called a beak. The nostrils are located at the front of the snout. The sense of smell and touch are relatively developed. The whole body of the turtle is box-shaped, and the whole body is wrapped in a box-shaped shell. The turtle shell is clearly divided into two parts: the dorsal carapace and the plastron, which are connected to each other on both sides by a bridge. The dorsal carapace and the plastron are composed of two layers, the outer layer is a horny shield derived from the epidermis, and the inner layer is a bone plate derived from the dermis. The shield grooves between the shields and the sutures of the bone plates do not overlap, so the turtle shell is extremely strong.

The turtle, also known as the soft-shelled turtle, has a flat body that is slightly round or oval. The body is covered with soft leathery skin. There are two dorsal and ventral carapaces. The dorsal carapace is slightly raised with a soft keratin skirt around it, and the ventral carapace is flat. The sides of the two carapaces are connected by ligament tissue. The back is usually dark green or yellowish brown, with inconspicuous warts arranged in longitudinal rows. The ventral surface is grayish white or yellowish white. The turtle has a long and powerful neck that can stretch and turn very flexibly. The snout is pointed and protruding, and there is a pair of nostrils at the front of the snout, which is convenient for it to stretch out of the water to breathe. The eyes are small and located on both sides of the head. The mouth is wide and located on the ventral side of the head. The upper and lower jaws have hard keratin sheaths that can crush hard food. There is a short tongue in the mouth, which is muscular, but it cannot stretch freely and can only help swallow food. The turtle's limbs are flat and short, located on both sides of the body, and can be retracted into the shell. There are five fingers on the forelimbs and five toes on the hind limbs. There are well-developed webbing membranes between the fingers and toes of the limbs, and hook-shaped claws on the ends of the 1st to 3rd fingers and toes protrude from the webbing membranes. Because the turtle has strong limbs and well-developed webbing membranes, it can crawl on land and swim in water. When it catches food, its powerful forelimbs and claws can also tear large pieces of food into pieces for easy chewing and swallowing.

2. What are the differences between turtle and soft-shelled turtle?

The two should belong to the same family and are two different animals. But turtles and tortoises are different animals.

The turtle has a hard shell with cracks on the shell surface; the tortoise has a soft shell with a smoother shell surface. The scientific name of the tortoise is the turtle, and in some places it is also called the soft-shelled turtle. The turtle is also called the water fish, the round fish, the soft-shelled turtle, the foot fish, the crawling fish, the round fish, and the turtle. The activity pattern of the turtle can be summarized into four sentences: "In late spring, when the weather is warm, it crawls on the beach; in summer, it hides in the shade of willows; in autumn, when the weather is cool, it goes into the cave; in winter, when it is cold, it hibernates in the mud." The tortoise shell has thirteen petals, is hard, has an oval head, a hard beak, no teeth, and has patterns on the head and limbs. The turtle shell is dark green, has no patterns, is relatively soft, has a pointed head, has teeth, and can stretch its neck very long. There are land turtles, water turtles, and amphibians.

Tortoises are a large group of turtles. There are many species. Most of them are gentle and do not attack other animals. Wangba is the common name for the horn of a turtle. It is a great tonic on the table. Unlike turtles, it is ferocious and often attacks when it thinks it is in danger.

3. Are soft-shell turtles different from tortoises?

Turtle (Amyda Sincnsis), commonly known as soft-shelled turtle, round fish, etc. It is an oviparous amphibian reptile. The soft-shelled turtle tastes delicious and has high nutritional value. It has many nourishing and medicinal effects, such as clearing away heat and nourishing yin, calming the liver and extinguishing wind, softening and dispersing nodules, and is effective for cirrhosis, hepatosplenomegaly, and epilepsy in children. Therefore, it is not only a delicious dish on the table, a high-quality material for high-quality banquets, but also an important Chinese medicine material.

Just like pineapple and pineapple, they are two names for the same thing.

4. Are soft-shell turtle and tortoise the same animal?

They are the same animal. Turtle is the common name and turtle is the scientific name.
