CATDOLL: How to farm native catfish

The breeding methods of catfish are: selecting high-quality fish species, feeding them reasonably, and managing them during the breeding period.

1. Choose high-quality fish

Although catfish farming does not require high water quality, not all water quality can be destroyed at will and then used to farm catfish. The fish pond also needs to be disinfected before stocking the fry. The water quality can be fertilized about seven days before stocking the fry. It is recommended to plant some plants like water lilies on the water surface, which is mainly to prevent catfish from escaping and provide shade.

2. Feed properly

When catfish fry are just hatched, they generally rely on their own yolk as a source of nutrition. When they can swim normally horizontally, they can be fed. Cooked egg yolks or foot plankton can be fed to the small catfish.

The method is usually to take out the egg yolk separately, wrap it with gauze and squeeze it in a dish filled with water. The resulting egg yolk slurry can be used for feeding. When the catfish grows up, you can feed it some pig blood, earthworms, etc.

3. Management during the breeding period

The breeding season of catfish is generally between March and May. The male and female fish with better maturity are divided into groups, and three female fish and one male fish are selected and placed in the cloth net of each group. The breeding season of female catfish is easier to see than the return season. At this time, the belly of female catfish will be swollen and very soft, and the genital opening will be round and swollen. Male catfish are thinner and longer, with a flatter abdomen and a narrow and long genital opening.
