CATDOLL: How to keep the soil moist for earthworms to survive (How to keep the soil moist for earthworms to survive)

1. Do I need to buy something to spray the soil when raising earthworms?

Natural terrestrial earthworms generally like to live in moist, loose soil rich in organic matter. When packing earthworms, you can consider leaf mold and garden soil as the main soil. You can usually use a spray bottle to spray the soil with water (keep the soil 30% to 50% moist, that is, it feels a little moist). Earthworms have a sensitive sense of taste, like sweet and sour food, and hate bitter taste. Occasionally, you can soak some sugar or bury a few sugar grains to supplement their nutrition.

2. What can be put inside earthworms to make them live longer?

There are two ways to keep earthworms alive and reproducing:

1. Put the earthworms and soil into a black plastic bag, sprinkle some water on the soil to make it moist, and use fine wire to make some small holes on the bag to facilitate the earthworms to breathe. Then put the bag in the refrigerator. It can be stored for more than a week.

2. Put the earthworms and soil into half a watermelon rind, with the soil reaching two-thirds of the rind, otherwise the earthworms will crawl out. Then sprinkle some water on the soil frequently, so that the earthworms can not only be preserved for a long time, but also reproduce.

3. What are the technical methods for earthworm breeding?

1. Breeding container

1. Generally, you need to choose a suitable breeding container or breeding place based on your own situation. If it is a family breeding, you can generally use a water tank or basin to breed earthworms, or you can dig holes in the open space for breeding.

2. If it is industrial farming, suitable containers will generally be placed in the delivery room for large-scale farming.

2. Preparation of matrix

1. First prepare humus, silt, animal feces and other materials, and then use them to breed earthworms after they have been decomposed and matured.

2. It should be noted that preparing a suitable substrate is usually conducive to the growth of earthworms, because earthworms are different from ordinary mealworms. The substrate they live in is basically their bait, and they mainly feed on humus in the soil.

3. Release earthworms

1. First put the substrate into the container, then put in the earthworms used as breeding insects and cover it with a layer of newspaper (for shading).

2. After all the earthworms have burrowed into the soil, you can remove the newspaper and cover it with a layer of straw. The purpose is to keep the substrate moist and block out light.

IV. Daily Management

1. Because earthworms are creatures that live in the dark, when caring for them, the breeding container needs to be placed in a dark place to avoid strong light. The soil temperature generally cannot be higher than 30℃.

2. After the earthworms finish eating the food, they need to be replenished with food in time to ensure that they have enough nutrients to grow. Generally, earthworms can be fed with nutritious foods such as vegetable leaves and apple cores.

3. Clean the earthworms' feces regularly to prevent the earthworms from getting diseases due to excessive accumulation of feces.

4. At the same time, you must control the moisture of the soil. If the soil is too dry, it is generally not conducive to the activity of earthworms.

4. How to breed earthworms?

1. Container: First, you need to choose a container of appropriate size. You can choose flower pots, plastic pots and other waste ceramics.

2. Soil: Add loose, breathable and moist soil into the container. Apply an appropriate amount of decomposed organic fertilizer to the soil before breeding.

3. Breeding: Place the prepared earthworms in the soil. Note that the breeding density should not be too high. You can spray water appropriately to keep the soil moist.

5. What is the best way to raise earthworms?

The best way to raise earthworms is to raise them in boxes:

As the name suggests, the box culture method uses boxes to culture earthworms, such as large wooden boxes, foam boxes, various basins, large barrels, large jars, etc. It is recommended to choose varieties such as Chizi Ai earthworms, Beixing No. 2, and red earthworms. These earthworms like to live in rotten grass piles, compost, various feces, dead branches and rotten leaves, rotten vegetable leaves, rotten fruits, and some waste and household garbage.

6. How to raise earthworms at home?

How to raise earthworms:

Take a large container, put 3/4 of the fertile soil in it, sprinkle water to wet the soil, put a few leaves, and then put a few earthworms in, cover it with a wet cloth to keep the soil moist. This is how you can raise earthworms.

If you want to raise earthworms on a large scale, it is better to adopt outdoor breeding method, which has simple equipment, easy management and low cost. Earthworms are omnivorous animals, and various poultry manure, animal manure, melon and fruit peels, vegetable leaves, tree leaves and non-toxic household garbage can be used as earthworm feed. It is best to ferment these feeds in advance to achieve no odor, no sour taste, complete decomposition and brown appearance.

Specific methods for outdoor breeding: Choose a place with high and cool terrain, good drainage, warm and ventilated, no pollution, and no disturbance. Use a shovel to dig a shallow pit about 1 meter wide, 25 cm deep, and of appropriate length. The bottom of the pit should be flat. After digging, build bricks on the bottom and walls of the pit to prevent the earthworms from escaping. Then spread about 5 cm of feed and put the earthworms in. Earthworms are not resistant to high temperatures (above 35°C) or low temperatures (below 0°C), so a shed should be built above the breeding pit to provide shade in the summer; in the winter, a simple plastic shed should be built above the breeding pit to increase the temperature of the pit and protect the earthworms from wintering safely. In addition, protection work should also be done to prevent infringement by rats, frogs, snakes, etc.
