Causes and treatment methods of sow farrowing

Why do sows give birth to piglets?

When sows give birth, the piglets drop due to the following reasons:

  • Malposition of the fetus: Malposition of the fetus in the sow's uterus causes the piglets to not have the correct position to enter the birth canal, which can easily cause piglets to fall out of the body.
  • Fetal abnormality: Abnormal fetal development, such as deformity, stillbirth, etc., can also cause sows to give birth to piglets with bubbles.
  • Unsanitary production environment: A dirty production environment and poor hygiene in the farrowing room will increase the risk of piglet blistering.

Treatment

Once the sow is found to be dropping bubbles during farrowing, timely measures should be taken and correct handling should be made while remaining calm:

  • Keep it clean: First of all, make sure the delivery room is clean and hygienic, and you can also clean the birth canal of the sow.
  • Check the fetal position: Check the fetal position in the sow's uterus, put the piglets in the right position as soon as possible, and help the sow give birth to the piglets smoothly.
  • Professional care: If the situation is serious, please seek veterinary treatment in time to avoid more serious problems caused by piglet blistering.

It is common for sows to drop bubbles during farrowing. Understanding the causes and taking correct measures to deal with them is the key to ensuring the health of sows and piglets. I hope the above information is helpful to you.
