CATDOLL: How to raise golden coin turtles? Tips for raising golden coin turtles

1. Construction of turtle pond

Turtle ponds are usually ponds built with cement. If there are fewer turtles, you can also choose to use fish tanks directly. Because golden coin turtles are suitable for warmer environments, like water, and are relatively timid. They like to dig holes and will run away when there are people around.

Based on these characteristics, it is recommended to lay sand with a thickness of more than 30cm at the bottom of the pool, and then plant some aquatic plants to provide shade, rest and hiding for the golden coin turtles. A small island can be built in the center of the pool with rockery stones, so that the golden coin turtles can climb up to rest and bask in the sun.

Note: There are cases where the big golden coin turtles eat the smaller ones, so the young turtles, adult turtles and parent turtles all need to be raised separately.

2. Water Quality Management

Golden coin turtles have high requirements for water quality. Poor water quality can easily cause them to get sick and lose their appetite. Generally speaking, fresh water will be light green, and the transparency of the water should be maintained at about 25cm, so if you find that the water is smelly, you should change the water in time. Especially the water in the cement pool is more likely to deteriorate than the water in the fish tank, so you should change the water regularly to keep the pool water clean.

3. Water temperature management

The appetite of golden coin turtles is obviously affected by temperature. When the temperature is below 24℃, golden coin turtles will show a significant decrease in appetite. At 20℃, golden coin turtles will basically not eat much, so the appetite of golden coin turtles will be relatively high from June to October. If golden coin turtles are raised indoors, pay attention to keeping the temperature above 24℃ during the non-hibernation season to avoid the turtles not eating, reducing their activity, and causing stunted development.

4. What does the golden coin turtle eat?

Golden coin turtles are omnivores with a wide range of diets. They generally like to eat fresh animal baits such as fish, shrimp, snail meat, earthworms, minced shellfish meat, cooked animal offal, etc. They can also be fed some plant feeds such as millet and vegetables to supplement vitamins and other nutrients. In order to ensure that the golden coin turtle's diet is nutritionally complete and to avoid symptoms such as stunted development and anorexia, it is recommended to add appropriate amounts of multivitamins, trace elements, calcium and other nutrients to the feed from time to time.

Feeding time: Regular feeding can help the golden coin turtle develop good eating habits, and it is also helpful for its digestion and absorption. It is generally recommended to feed it around noon in spring and autumn, and it is better to feed it between 5 and 7 pm in summer.

Feeding amount: May to November each year is the active period for golden coin turtles, and they will hibernate for the rest of the time. Among these months, July to September is the period when golden coin turtles gain weight faster, so the feeding amount should be appropriately increased in these three months.

5. Hibernation Management

Golden coin turtles are cold-blooded animals. Generally, after November every year, when the temperature drops below 15℃, golden coin turtles will enter hibernation. They will usually hide in the mud and sand at the bottom of the pond and will not eat. Therefore, there is no need to feed golden coin turtles or change water during this period. However, if the ambient temperature is below 6℃, golden coin turtles may be frozen to death, so it is important to take artificial heat preservation measures.

The above is about the breeding of golden coin turtles, I hope it can be helpful to everyone. Finally, I would like to remind everyone that due to the high temperature in the recent summer, golden coin turtles may also suffer from heat stroke and coma and die, so pay attention to setting up a hidden place to shade them!
