1. Temperature

The suitable living temperature for field snails is 20-28℃. Once the water temperature is lower than 10℃ or higher than 30℃, the appetite will decrease. If the water temperature is higher than 40℃, the snails will be scalded to death.

2. Water

(1) Snails like to live in micro-flowing water areas with sufficient dissolved oxygen (above 4 mg/L) and good water quality.

(2) The suitable pH value of the water body is 7-8, and the water depth is about 30-40cm.

3. Food

(1) Snails are omnivorous animals. When feeding them, you can choose to feed them vegetables, rice bran, wheat bran, vegetable cakes, bean dregs, vegetable leaves, duckweed, animal carcasses and scraps.

(2) Feeding time is from 7 pm to 9 am the next day.

4. Management

(1) If the snails show signs of calcium deficiency, sprinkle them with shell powder immediately.

(2) If there are leeches, you can use grass soaked in pig blood to lure them away.

(3) Effectively control the natural enemies of snails, such as ducks and waterfowl.

(4) In winter, when the water temperature drops below 12°C, cover the pond with a layer of plastic film. During sunny days, add shallow water (10-15 cm) and deepen the pond (50 cm) at night. Change the water every 3-4 days.

(5) Plant aquatic plants in the spring to provide shade for the snails in the summer.

2. What conditions are needed to raise snails?

1. Water environment

(1) The water used for aquaculture must be non-toxic and pollution-free.

(2) Choose to use semi-flowing water for breeding, which requires the dissolved oxygen content of the water to be above 3.5-4 mg/L. If the dissolved oxygen content is below 3.5 mg/L, the snails will lose their appetite, and if the dissolved oxygen content is below 1.5 mg/L, the snails will die.

(3) The bottom of the pond should be covered with 10-15 cm thick sediment. Water lilies can be planted on the water surface. Branches, bamboo poles and stones can be placed in the water for snails to inhabit.

(4) The water depth is controlled at 30-40cm, the water pH is controlled between 7-8, and the water is changed 1-2 times a week.

(5) 10 days before feeding the snails, use 50-100 kg of quicklime per mu of pond to remove wild fish, shrimp and other snails. 7-10 days later, apply 450-500 g of chicken manure and rice straw (75% chicken manure, 25% rice straw) per square meter to improve water quality for the snails to eat.

(6) Nylon nets should be laid at water inlets and outlets to prevent snails from escaping.

2. Feeding

(1) Feed formula for snails: 60% rice bran, 25% wheat bran, 15% soybean meal, or 60% rice bran, 20% fish meal, 20% corn.

(2) Feeding method: In an environment of 20-28℃, feed once every two days, and the feeding amount each time is 2-3% of the body weight of the snail. In an environment of 15-20℃ or 28-30℃, feed twice a week, and the feeding amount each time is 1% of the body weight of the snail. In an environment with a temperature below 15℃ or above 30℃, feed a small amount of food, or do not feed.

2. How to breed snails?

1. Selection of snail breeding sites

The snail breeding site should be selected in a place with sufficient water source, good water quality, humus soil and convenient transportation. It is best to have running water. 2. Fertilization and feeding: First, add some feces to the breeding pond to cultivate plankton to provide food for the snails. The amount of fertilizer depends on the fatness of the bottom of the snail pond. After the snails are put into the pond, feed them with green vegetables, rice bran, fish viscera, or vegetable cakes, bean cakes and other fuels. The green horns and fish viscera should be chopped and mixed with rice bran and other feeds before feeding. The vegetable cakes, bean cakes, etc. should be soaked and softened to facilitate the snails to eat. The feeding amount depends on the snails' feeding situation. It is generally calculated at 1%-3% of the total amount of snails, and is fed once every 2-3 days. The feeding time is every morning.
