The eggs laid by cicadas hatch into young cicadas in half a month. The life period of young cicadas is particularly long. The shortest one lives underground for 2 to 3 years, usually 4 to 5 years, and the longest is 17 years. Young cicadas live underground for a long time, with warm winters and cool summers, and few natural enemies to threaten them. They are quite comfortable. After molting 4 to 5 times, they will drill out of the ground and climb onto branches to molt one by one (called "golden cicada molting"), becoming adults. What also puzzles entomologists is that cicadas can determine the time very accurately, complete the transition from larvae to adults in "hell" just in time, and leave "hell" and crawl out of the ground in time. This is an incredible miracle. Especially the 17-year cicada, this kind of cicada spends exactly 17 years in "hell" before seeing the light of day. To see its children, it must wait another 17 years. Therefore, entomologists are always waiting for the appearance of the "17-year cicada" like astronomers waiting for solar eclipses and Halley's Comet. The golden cicada is also known as the grasshopper cicada and the black cicada. The nymph is commonly known as the cicada turtle. It is a representative species of the Cicadidae insect family. It is distributed in Henan, Hebei, Shandong, Anhui and other places in my country. Studies have found that golden cicadas like broad-leaved trees with soft wood and rich juice, fruit trees such as hawthorn, peach, apple, pear, etc.; wood trees such as tung, willow, elm, etc. are all their favorite species to live and feed. It usually takes 3-5 years for wild golden cicadas to complete a generation from adults. Artificial breeding can shorten the growth cycle to about 18 months. The mature nymphs of golden cicadas emerge from the soil from late May to late August, molt and become adults. |
