Crab (páng xiè): Animalia, Arthropoda, Crustacea, Class Molluscs, Subclass Eumolucida, Order Decapoda, Suborder Gastropoda, Order Brachyura. It is a crustacean, with a hard shell protecting its body and breathing through gills. In biological taxonomy, it is the same animal as shrimp, lobster, and hermit crab.

Most species of crabs live in the sea or near the coast, and some live in fresh water or on land. They rely on female crabs to give birth to baby crabs, and each time the female crab will lay a lot of eggs, the number can reach millions or more. Crabs rely on the geomagnetic field to determine the direction. The number of genetic materials of this type of organisms is complex and has great differences, often up to more than 100 pairs. Common crabs include hairy crabs (river crabs, hairy crabs, clear water crabs), swimming crabs, etc. my country has abundant crab resources, among which the hairy crabs produced by Gucheng Lake hairy crabs, Taihu Lake hairy crabs, Gaoyou Lake hairy crabs, Yangcheng Lake hairy crabs, Xielou hairy crabs, Xinghua hairy crabs, and Hongze Lake hairy crabs in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River are top quality.

1. Pond conditions

The water source is sufficient, the water inlet and outlet are convenient, the water quality is good, and the soil is clean. Clay, sandy soil or sub-sandy soil with good ventilation is selected, which is conducive to the growth and reproduction of aquatic plants and benthic insects, snails, clams, and water earthworms. The old pond should be thoroughly desilted, and the silt should not exceed 20cm. The pond area should not be too small. The water depth of the pond is maintained at about 0.6-1.5 meters all year round. The water depth varies from place to place, and the shallowest is 10cm. Several mounds slightly above the water surface can be built in the pond, that is, crab islands, and aquatic plants can be transplanted on the islands. The pond should not be too steep, and the slope ratio is generally below 1:1.5, otherwise, river crabs are easy to dig holes, and it is not conducive to crawling out of the water at night. Artificial caves can also be built.

2. Transplanting aquatic plants

The natural yield of river crabs mainly depends on the amount of aquatic plants and benthic organisms (bait organisms) in the water area. Planting aquatic plants well is an indispensable technical measure in the breeding process. Planting aquatic plants not only provides food for crabs to supplement vitamins, but also can feed them to fight and hide each other. It is a powerful measure to improve the survival rate of river crabs in various periods. In addition, it can absorb harmful ammonia nitrogen, carbon dioxide, and organic matter in the pond, release oxygen, and stabilize water quality. People often say "the size of the crab depends on the aquatic plants." Therefore, for pond breeding of river crabs, great efforts must be made to plant aquatic plants. Our main types of aquatic plants are duckweed, red azolla, water hyacinth, water hyacinth, verticillaster black algae, goldfish algae, bitter grass, water peanuts, etc. Pay attention to disinfection and pest control when transplanting.

3. Escape prevention facilities

Anti-escape facilities are mostly made of plastic film, but some are made of cement boards, depending on the individual circumstances.

4. Pond cleaning and disinfection

Generally, the pond is cleaned and disinfected with quicklime half a month before stocking, with a dosage of 75 kg per mu. On the one hand, it can kill harmful organisms, and on the other hand, it can improve the pond bottom, increase the calcium ion content in the water body, and promote the molting and growth of river crabs. After the water is filled, fertilizers should be applied in time, and algae and basic bait should be cultivated. The transparency should generally be maintained at 40-50cm. If tadpoles or frog eggs are found, they should be removed in time to avoid competition for food and harm to young crabs.

5. Planting seedlings

When purchasing seedlings, it is best to choose crab seedlings produced in the Yangtze River system. They should be of uniform size, have complete legs, be strong, crawl actively, and be free of injuries and diseases.

Stocking and density, pay attention to temperature difference when stocking. The seedlings purchased from other places cannot be put directly into the pond, they should be soaked in water for 2-3 minutes, taken out and put in for 10 minutes, and repeated 2-3 times. After the young crabs gradually absorb enough water and adapt to the water temperature, they can be put into the pond to improve the survival rate.

Density: Currently, most of them are mixed culture, especially fish, shrimp and crab, which will have higher economic benefits. The density can be controlled within 1,500 per mu, with a size of 120-150 crabs per kg. If the conditions are poor or shrimp farming is the main method, the amount of seedlings can be appropriately reduced.

6. Daily management

(1) Feeding: The entire process of pond intensive breeding mainly relies on artificial feeding. Therefore, the type, quality and amount of feed have a great impact on the growth and development of river crabs. When feeding, we should adhere to the principle of reasonable combination of fine, green and coarse feed. Animal concentrate accounts for 40%, aquatic plants account for 35%, and other plant feed accounts for 25%. The types of feed are mainly divided into three categories: (i) complete price river crab special compound feed; (ii) animal: small marine and freshwater fish, various animal carcasses, snails, clams, livestock and poultry blood, fish meal, silkworm pupae, etc.; (iii) plant: aquatic plants, duckweed, water peanuts, bitter grass, verticillaster, etc. Commercial feed: sweet potatoes, potatoes, cereals, bran, bran, etc.

The feeding method of river crabs is the same as that of fish farming in ponds, which requires "four observations and four determinations", namely, the season, weather, water quality, and crab activity, and the timing, location, quality, and quantity.

Depends on the season: In spring, young crabs should be fed some live animal feed of one-year-olds. In the middle period of crab growth, especially from May to August, the amount of animal feed should be appropriately increased, but plant feed should be the main type. In the later period, crabs need a lot of nutrition to meet the development of gonads, so more animal feed should be fed. In this way, crabs will gain weight and have delicious meat. The feed allocation according to the season is generally 40% from March to June and 60% from July to October. When the water temperature is below 10 degrees Celsius, crabs are less active and do not eat much, so they can be fed less and fed once every other day. When the water temperature is 3-5 degrees Celsius, no feeding is required.

Look at the weather: feed more when the weather is clear, feed less on rainy days, stop feeding in hot and humid weather before a rain shower without wind, and feed again after the fog clears on foggy days.

Check the water quality: if the water is clear, you can feed normally; if the water is thick, reduce feeding appropriately and change the water in time.

Observe the activity of the crabs: generally, they will eat everything on the morning of the second day after feeding. If the feed amount is appropriate, and they cannot eat it all, it means that the crabs have poor appetite or there are too many of them. You should analyze the reasons in time and reduce the feeding amount. You should increase the feeding amount appropriately during the molting period.

Timing: River crabs are nocturnal and hide during the day. They go out to look for food at night. Feeding is done twice a day, at 8 or 9 in the morning and in the afternoon. The amount of food fed in the evening is 60-70% of the daily feeding amount.

Fixed point: The feeding should be fixed. The feed should be spread on the feeding table or on the slope near the water level in shallow water, so as to observe the crabs' eating and activities and increase or decrease the feed at any time. Crabs have a strong competitive nature, so more feeding points should be set up to ensure that the crabs eat evenly and avoid some small or weak crabs from killing each other due to lack of feed.

Quality control: River crabs are sensitive to smells such as fragrance, sweetness, bitterness, saltiness, and odor. The feed they are fed must be fresh, palatable, and rich in protein.

Quantification: "If a fish does not eat for one day, it will not grow for three days." The same goes for river crabs. This requires determining the feeding amount based on the size, density, different seasons, weather, and activity of the river crabs. Generally, the daily feeding amount is 8-10% of the body weight of the crabs in the pond. A small feeding amount can only sustain life. Exceeding the appropriate range will also affect growth and increase the feed coefficient.

When feeding, animal and plant feeds should be matched, such as feeding grass and grains in the morning, and feeding clams, snails, and silkworm pupae in the afternoon.

Crab: Animalia, Arthropoda, Crustacea, Class Molluscs, Class Eumolluscs, Order Decapoda, Suborder Gastropoda, Order Brachyura. It is a crustacean, with a hard shell protecting its body and breathing through gills.
