CATDOLL: How to feed ducklings that have not been thawed?

1. How to feed ducklings that have not been thawed?

Make preparations before raising ducklings

First, prepare enough fresh and high-quality complete feed. Secondly, the brooding room, feeding utensils and necessary facilities should be fully equipped to ensure that every duckling can eat feed and drink water. Thirdly, the brooding room, feeding utensils, etc. should be disinfected with 2% caustic soda water, and then rinsed with clean water after drying. Finally, the brooding room should be fumigated and disinfected. 3. Drink water first and then feed

Ducklings do not feel hungry after hatching. 24 hours after hatching, the ducklings’ down has dried, and they are active and lively. They often make “quack” sounds and start to move and peck at each other. At this time, they should be fed water before feeding. If the ducklings are mentally tired, their eyes are half open and half closed, and they are unwilling to move, it is past the time to feed. Feeding ducklings too early can easily damage their digestive organs and affect their health; feeding ducklings too late can cause insufficient nutrition, which is not conducive to their growth and development. Therefore, the best time to feed ducklings is between 14 and 24 hours after hatching.

Drink water before eating. Adding an appropriate amount of glucose or vitamin C to drinking water can promote gastrointestinal motility, clean the stomach, promote metabolism, accelerate the absorption of remaining egg yolk, increase appetite, and strengthen physical fitness. If 1‰ potassium permanganate is added to drinking water, it can also play a role in gastrointestinal disinfection.

4. Master the feeding method and frequency

The digestive function of ducklings is not perfect, so when feeding ducklings, do not feed too much each time. Only feed them until they are 60% to 70% full. If they are fed too much at one time, it will easily cause indigestion. Ducklings have a small gastrointestinal volume and digestion speed. If they are fed too little and the ducklings are hungry for a long time, it will affect their growth and development.

Under the condition of free feeding, the chyme of ducklings within 14 days can reach the duodenum in 5 minutes, and the excretion starts in 2 hours and is emptied in 4 hours. If the interval between feedings exceeds 4 hours, the ducklings will be in a hungry state. Generally speaking, the smaller the ducklings are, the less they eat, and the more times they are fed. In the early stage of brooding, it is necessary to add feed frequently and feed less, feed 6-8 times a day, and feed 1-2 times at night to encourage the ducklings to move.

2. Do ducklings need to be fed 24 hours a day?

Need to feed 24 hours

1. Usually the ducklings can eat 24 hours after hatching. You can cook the rice until it is 50% cooked, then scatter it on the ground and let it peck freely. Generally, it needs to be fed 6-8 times a day.

2. When it reaches 4 days old, feed it with boiled wheat compound feed, usually 4-5 times a day. When it grows to 15 days old, it usually only needs to be fed 3 times a day.

3. When the ducklings start eating for about 3 days, you can add appropriate amounts of animal protein feed to them. You can also chop up small fish, shrimps, clams, crabs, earthworms and other foods and mix them with the feed.

3. Do the ducklings need to be fed all night?

There is no need to feed the ducks at night. If you want the ducks to grow quickly in a greenhouse, you can feed them at night. The newly hatched ducklings should drink water before feeding. The ducklings can be fed with some feed, some coarse cornmeal, and some chopped cabbage and green vegetables. When the ducklings grow up a little, you can feed them some small insects, small fish, and small shrimps to supplement the ducks with some protein. When they grow up a little, you can feed them some grains.

4. How to feed the ducklings when they first start eating?

1. Duck nest

You can build a duck nest of suitable size to raise ducks in a place with good sunlight, drainage and ventilation. Generally, plastic foam boxes are used, which are very good at keeping warm.

2. Temperature

Newly hatched ducklings need a temperature of 30°C, but it is impossible to reach this temperature in winter, so it is best to buy an incandescent bulb and hang it 30-50cm above the duck nest, and place the box next to the radiator to keep warm. It is best to cover the bulb with a layer of cloth, as ducklings do not like too bright light, so it is best to turn on the light all night for the first few days.

3. Feed

To make up for the lack of feed during the free-range period, free-range ducks should be fed in time. The free-range ducklings start to be raised from 4 weeks old. The early stage is the brooding period, which can be kept in pens or cages. The ducklings are fed once in the morning and evening to make up for the lack of energy. As the ducklings grow, the free-range ducks can be fed according to the weeds, wild vegetables and insects they eat. During the free-range period, they are fed after returning to the shed at night, and sufficient drinking water is prepared to meet their drinking needs.

4. Free Range

Ducks should be raised in a free-range manner. During the raising process, ducks will find food on their own. Ducks are clumsy and cannot climb trees to peck for food, which provides a guarantee for low-fence grazing in orchards. Any orchard with good soil and water conditions and high or old trunks of apple, pear, apricot, hawthorn, persimmon, walnut and other trees can be raised in a free-range manner.

5. Drinking Water

Drinking water must be clean, preferably warm boiled water. Use a container with a depth of about 5 cm. Do not add too much water, otherwise the bedding will get wet. Ducklings do not like it to be too wet. You must "feed water first and then feed", and never feed without feed, otherwise the ducklings will choke. If the water is dirty, replace it with clean water in time.

6. Cleaning

After a period of time, the litter will become damp and there will be a lot of feces, so the litter should be changed regularly. The water bowl and food bowl used by the ducklings should be cleaned regularly.

5. What are the differences between Muscovy ducklings and Mallard ducklings?

[Muscovy duck] Also known as knob-headed duck, foreign duck, musk duck, scientific name Cairna moschata, it is the same species but different genus as common domestic duck. Muscovy duck is mainly produced in Gutian, Fuzhou suburbs and Longhai, and is distributed in Fuqing, Putian, Jinjiang, Changtai, Longyan, Datian, Pucheng and other cities and counties. The main production area in northern Fujian is in Gutian County, where black Muscovy ducks are raised, and male ducks are transported to various places in eastern Fujian and northern Fujian to produce "half-Muscovy ducks". [Shutter duck] Shaoxing Muscovy duck has a unique feather color, with brown spots on the white-gray feathers, hence the name. Shaoxing Muscovy duck is one of my country's excellent egg-laying duck breeds, known as the "Pearl of Poultry". It has the characteristics of small size, fast growth, low feed and high egg production. Shaoyu Plain is the origin and breeding center of Shaoxing Muscovy duck, with unique advantages. Muscovy duck originated in the tropical regions of Central and South America, and our province has a long history of breeding.

6. What is the difference between water duck seedlings and land duck seedlings?

1. Different appearance

The young of landlubber is relatively sturdy, with a large head with a reticulate corona, a short and thick neck, and an oblong body. The young of water duck is smaller, with no reticulate corona on its head, only pappus.

2. Different colors

The feathers of young landlubbers are generally pure black or pure white, bright and shiny, and the color of the duck eggs is grayish white. The feathers of young water ducks are brightly colored, including green, brown-red, purple-blue, etc., and the color of the duck eggs is green.

7. How to distinguish between egg-laying ducklings and mallard ducklings?

The distinction method is as follows

First, the difference between varieties: Muscovy ducks are mainly meat-producing ducks, while egg-laying ducks are mainly egg-laying ducks. Beijing White Duck and Cherry Valley Meat Duck are meat ducks, while Shaoxing Muscovy ducks are egg-laying ducks. Gaoyou Muscovy ducks are both egg- and meat-producing ducks.

Second, ducks have different body shapes. Meat ducks are large and compact, while egg-laying ducks are small and slender.

3. Meat ducks are fat and have more subcutaneous fat, while laying ducks are slightly thin and have less fat.

Fourth, the breeding cycle of meat ducks is short, and they are marketed in 40-100 days, while laying ducks are eliminated at least once a year.

8. I want to buy ducklings. Are ducklings sold in winter?

Ducklings are available all year round. The ducklings that are purchased can be dehumidified by using a heat lamp or a heat furnace. In summer, it is enough to keep warm for 7 days, and the insulation temperature is suitable at 30 degrees. In autumn and winter, the insulation time can be extended for a few days.

The time of watering should not be too long just after insulation, and the time of watering should be increased slowly.

9. What is the difference between Muscovy ducklings and Shelduck ducklings?

1. Different types

Muscovy ducks are different species from common domestic ducks. Muscovy ducks are mute ducks, while domestic ducks are mallards.

2. Different appearance

The appearance of Muscovy ducks is obviously different from that of ordinary ducks. Muscovy ducks have a body shape that is pointed in front and narrow in the back, and are long and oval. They have a large head, short neck, short and narrow bill, well-developed beak and claws, broad and plump chest, and a long and thin tail. They do not have enlarged buttocks like domestic ducks. There are red or black tumors at the base of the beak and on both sides of the head muscles. They do not grow feathers, so they can be clearly distinguished.

3. Different colors of feathers

The feathers of Muscovy ducks are generally white, black, and black and white, with a few being silver-gray; while the feathers of ordinary ducks are generally white, tawny, sparrow-colored, etc.

10. What do ducklings eat?

Ducks can eat grains and some insects. They like to eat small fish and shrimps, and also eat earthworms.
