How many cicada monkeys can come from a tree?

Cicada monkeys crawl out of the soil, they don’t grow on trees.

There can be thousands of cicada monkeys climbing up the trees.

Cicadas can usually be caught from early to mid-July. Because the climate varies from place to place, the time of appearance is also different. However, if you hear faint cicada chirping during the day, it's almost there. If the sound is loud, it may be that they have all emerged, and they are basically gone.

It usually appears more frequently in northern regions.

It is difficult to predict when they will come out of their holes. But they like to come out in the evening, maybe from 7 to 11 p.m., especially on rainy days. Because of the air pressure before the rain, they are probably stuffy underground, so they like to come out of their holes at this time, but they will emerge after climbing to a certain height on the trunk or branches of a tree.

The life period of young cicadas is particularly long. The shortest is 2 to 3 years underground, generally 4 to 5 years, and the longest is 17 years.

The pupa of a cicada spends the first two or three years of its life underground, or perhaps even longer. During this time, it sucks liquid from the roots of trees. Then one day it breaks out of the ground and finds a tree to climb up based on its survival instinct. After several years of slow growth, the cicada pupa crawls out of the ground as a storage of energy. Its front claws, which it uses to dig holes, can also be used for climbing. Young cicada monkeys live mostly in tropical, subtropical and temperate regions, and are less common in cold regions. "Restoration" is a cicada that has just emerged from the ground. Note that there are some misunderstandings here that lead people to believe that the larvae of scarab beetles or dung beetles are cicada larvae. The scientific name of the cicada larvae is also called cicada dog or cicada monkey. The nymph stage of the cicada is called cicada monkey, cicada monkey or cicada turtle.

The young cicadas have a lot of protein, fat and carbohydrates in their bodies, and their nutritional value is very rich, comparable to fish, meat, poultry and eggs, and their amino acid content ranks first among all animal and plant foods. In addition, it is rich in amino acids and various minerals such as calcium, phosphorus and iron. The various beneficial ingredients in cicadas can promote growth and development, improve immunity, and have an auxiliary therapeutic effect on the recovery of patients with physical weakness. However, it is necessary to remind citizens who are allergic to foreign proteins (fish, shrimp and other seafood) that it is best to eat less or no cicadas to avoid unnecessary trouble. Cicada nymphs (cicada turtles) have extremely high nutritional value and unique taste.

The nymphs just unearthed contain 58.58%-70.2% protein, 10.23% fat, 0.3% potassium, 0.58% total phosphorus, 16.5 mg/kg calcium, and 82.2 mg/kg zinc, which is a rare high-protein, low-fat dish.

Adults usually emerge at 8-10 pm and 4-6 am, and the ratio of males to females is basically 1:1. Adults often live on tree trunks and branches, and have the habit of fighting fires at night. Adults lay eggs on one- or two-year-old branches with a thickness of 2-7 mm. The eggs are laid in the wood of the branches. The egg nests are close together, mostly in a single row or double row, arranged in a straight line, and a few are arranged in a curved or spiral shape. There are 6-8 eggs in each egg nest, 12-479 eggs in an egg-laying branch, generally 20-200 eggs, and an average of 146 eggs. There are 6-146 egg holes on each branch. Each female insect carries more than 500-1000 eggs in its abdomen, with a maximum of 1500 eggs, a minimum of 20 eggs, and an average of 800 eggs. The life span of adults is about 3 months, and the occurrence period is generally from July to September each year. Adults have wings and can fly, and use their piercing-sucking mouthparts to suck the nutrient juice from young branches of trees. After mating, female cicadas insert their ovipositors into the wood of tender branches of the current or biennial year before laying eggs. At the same time, they cause the tender branches to dehydrate, dry up, and die, causing damage to the trees.

Cicadas start to emerge from their holes in the evening. They first dig a small hole in the soil and then slowly expand it until they can get out. At this time, we can take advantage of the afterglow of the setting sun to search the ground in the forest to see which cicadas are about to show their heads so that we can catch them.

Night is the time when cicadas come out of their holes collectively. Flashlights are essential tools. We need to keep the flashlights fully charged, with strong light and far-reaching illumination, so that we can search for all cicadas near and far. And when weapons are in contact, we can get priority discovery and catch them first at the critical moment.

When there are many cicadas and few catchers, especially when you are alone, we can tie tape on the tree. When the cicadas climb the tree at night, they will not be able to climb up when they reach the tape, so we can just "sit back and wait".

Old forests are often the places with the most cicadas. People who catch cicadas often talk about where they took photos of more than 200 last night in a certain forest. If you calculate it at 50 cents per photo, you will earn more than 100 yuan. If an old forest is newly cut down, there will still be more cicadas in it within a few years.

You can look for them around farmlands. There are few people in the fields, and there are relatively many cicadas living there, so you will get more if you look for them in the fields.

Several points to note for successful breeding of cicadas

The cicada egg branches overwinter with the cicada egg groups on the young branches of the current or biennial years and the nymphs of all ages concentrated on the roots of plants in the soil. After planting, it is necessary to manage the environment, feed, breeding objects, etc. to complete the process of the cicada's emergence, adulthood, and egg laying.

1. The growth process of a growth cycle of the golden cicada:

It usually takes 5 to 7 years for cicadas to complete a generation. Artificial breeding of cicadas can shorten the growth cycle to 24-36 months.

The cicada eggs overwinter on the young branches of the current or biennial year and on the roots of plants in the soil. The overwintering eggs begin to hatch in mid-May of the following year. The egg period of wild cicadas is nearly 300 days. However, artificial hatching only takes about 40 days.

After completing the entire life cycle of the nymph in the soil, the mature nymphs of the cicada emerge from the soil in late June to mid-to-late July, and crawl to the branches of shrubs, stems of weeds, etc., where they shed their skin and emerge as adults.

About 20 days after the emergence of adults, they mate and lay eggs. The adults lay eggs on one- or two-year-old branches with a thickness of 2 to 7 mm. There are 100 to 489 eggs in one oviposition branch. Each female cicada carries 500 to 1,000 eggs in its abdomen, with a maximum of 1,500 eggs. They feed on the nutrient juice from the young branches of trees with their piercing-sucking mouthparts. After mating, female cicadas insert their ovipositors into the wood of tender branches of the current or two-year-old tree before laying eggs.

2. Management experience after planting:

Provide a good environment for cicadas:

The ideal size for cicada "breeding" is 10 to 30 cm. It should face the sun and be protected from frost. The soil should be loose, fertile and pollution-free. It should not be too dry, nor should it have too much water or water accumulation, to ensure that the root system of the host plant grows and develops normally and that the young plants are tender, developed and juicy.

Get the feed:

Choose healthy tree species with well-developed root systems, lush growth and rich juice, such as poplar, elm, willow, tung or various fruit trees in the orchard.

Breeding time and hatching method of breeding objects:

① Concentrate indoors to promote hatching. Hatching method: In a plastic box 70 cm long, 40 cm wide, and 20 cm high, spread 5 to 10 cm thick fine dry sand on the bottom, place the egg branches in bundles vertically or horizontally on it, and constantly spray mist with a small sprayer to maintain high humidity around the branches with eggs, so that excess water droplets are absorbed by the fine sand at the bottom. In the meantime, the hatching of eggs should be checked continuously. When nymph activity is found, the branches and fine sand can be placed in the breeding place.

② The breeding time is generally from May to July every year. The ground under the host plant tree in the breeding site is about 1 meter away from the base of the tree trunk. ③ From the egg stage to the mature golden cicada nymphs, there are an average of 210 per kilogram. At this time, the body color is brown and the eyes are dark gray. According to the weight, body color and eye color changes, the time and age of the nymphs' growth and development can be accurately determined.
