CATDOLL: How to raise ants

1. How does one raise ants?

1. Preparation:

Open the lid of the Ant Workshop and use the small stick provided with the product to poke four holes in the gel that are roughly evenly distributed and about 20 mm deep to prompt the ants to dig holes there; although they may not necessarily dig according to your prompts.

2. Put the ants in:

For the delivered ants, insert one end of the tube containing the ants into the plug hole on the lid and wait for the ants to crawl in. For the ants caught in the wild, let the ants climb onto a straw or stick, and then shake them into the ant workshop. Do not catch ants directly with your hands, as they are very small and easily injured. If you are helpless with the ants, you can put the container containing the ants in the refrigerator for about 10 minutes. Ants move more slowly at 15-18°C. Be careful not to let the temperature be too low and the time be too long to prevent the ants from freezing to death.

3. Daily feeding:

About 7-10 days, when the ants are resting, gently open the lid to give them fresh air. While the ants are working, you can use the included magnifying glass to observe the ants' life secrets more closely.

4. Notes:

Do not feed the ants anything, as the gel in the ant farm contains nutrients and moisture that the ants need. Do not place the ant farm in direct sunlight.

This is a device for raising ants called Ant Workshop. The blue jelly-like substance in the container is a transparent resin containing nutrients needed by the ants. According to the Internet, this is a byproduct of the US space program. NASA designed this product to observe how ants work in a weightless environment.

2. How to raise ants? Can you observe them at home? What are some tips? Don’t buy the ones on Taobao!

Find a transparent container with smooth inner walls, and create a small ecological environment for ants in it that is very close to real life! For example, there may be ant nests, small plants, small stones, etc., and place it in a place where it is easy to observe under the sun.

3. How should we raise ants? Why do ants never dig holes and die quickly?

Are you using the right gel nest? In recent years, it has become difficult to buy good quality gel nests in China. Most of them are made in small workshops or even by individuals, and are toxic, so ants don’t like to dig them. In addition, even if they are genuine, the gel nests contain too much water, and it is difficult for ants to survive in them for a long time. At present, the mainstream nests for pet ants are made of gypsum. Other materials such as acrylic nests, wooden nests, earth nests, aerated brick nests, natural stone nests, test tube nests, etc. also have their own advantages and disadvantages, and are adapted to different types of ants and situations. If you mean that the earth nest does not dig holes, the reasons may be 1. It is always disturbed, insecure, and ready to escape; 2. It is originally a tree-dwelling or rock-dwelling species; 3. There is a lack of a queen ant, and there is no leader (most of the time, they will dig even if there is no queen ant, but some species or situations lead to disordered group relationships)

As for how to raise them, it is not easy to explain in one or two sentences. There are too many types of ants. I suggest you go to the pet ant forum. There are two main pet ant forums in China and even in Southeast Asia: China Pet Ant Forum or Ant Life Guide Forum
