CATDOLL : How to Choose a Safe Flea Collar for Your Cat

How to Choose a Safe Flea Collar for Your Cat

Most flea collars on the market are soaked in some organophosphorus insecticides. When you open the package, you can smell the strong smell of medicine, which is harmful to cats. However, some flea collars use new pyrethroid insecticides, which have relatively less odor and toxicity. So after opening the flea collar package, place it in a ventilated place for one or two days. Finally, pay special attention to the cat's condition within a week after wearing the flea collar. If you find that the cat is abnormal, take off the collar in time and take the cat to the doctor.

Things to note when using flea collars on cats:

1. A newly bought collar should not be put on a cat immediately. It should be taken out of the packaging bag and placed in a safe place for 3-5 days before being put on the cat. This is because the concentration of organophosphorus pesticides in the newly bought collar is high, and putting it on the cat immediately can easily cause skin allergies and poisoning in cats.

2. After the cat wears the collar, the deworming effect should be checked frequently. If fleas and lice are found on the cat's buttocks during the inspection, it means that the collar is less effective and can no longer effectively eliminate external parasites on the cat's body. It must be replaced in time and cannot be replaced mechanically according to the expiration date.

3. After the cat wears the collar, you should always pay attention to observe and check the cat's condition. If you find that the cat has abnormal mental state, excitement or inhibition, or alternating excitement and inhibition, drooling, loss of appetite or no appetite, diarrhea, muscle tremors, unstable standing, body shaking, pupil constriction, vision loss, etc., it indicates that the cat has been poisoned by organophosphorus. You should immediately remove the collar and wash the neck skin with clean water. After a period of time, the cat will gradually recover, usually without special treatment.

4. When bathing a cat, you should remove the flea and lice collar and put it back on the cat after bathing.

5. Most cat flea and lice collars contain organophosphorus compounds, so they should not be allowed to be played with by children to avoid poisoning. They should not be allowed to be played with by cats either.
